We rescue the abandoned, beaten, bred, fought, injured, terrified, defeated and betrayed. The minute they enter our doors, we look in their eyes and promise them ALL the second chance they deserve for health, home, commitment and love, no matter the amount of time or cost involved.
Our Vision is to ensure a bright future for the underdog. To end needless suffering, negligence, and abuse. To serve the City of St. Louis and surrounding metro areas and have the largest inner-city animal sanctuary in the country. less

Tom was the husband of Barbara who loved him dearly and relied on him for almost 47 years. He was a wonderful, sweet man who showed his sons Drew and Matthew how to live generous and meaningful lives. He was extremely proud of his sons and the men they have grown up to be. His grandchildren, Cecelia, Samuel and Patrick were the light of his life. He was so happy to be their Boppa, and never missed an opportunity to play with them – he was even willing to be coaxed into ice-cold pool water, just to play with them. The saddest point of Tom’s life was the loss of his infant daughter, Margaret.
Tom grew up in University City and stayed connected to many of his childhood friends from school and church for the rest of his life. He worked as a labor and employment attorney for his entire career. He was respected by his colleagues for his thoughtful and compassionate approach to his work. His kind and warm personality made close, enduring friendships at each of his workplaces. In recent years he was happily retired. He played tennis with his longtime childhood friends, he played golf and traveled with Barbara, and walked his dog. Tom made many friends in his neighborhood dog walking community. It brought him much joy to spend time with those two and four-legged friends.
Tom will be missed by many people but especially his family.
