Timothy “Tim” David Bumpass passed away on February 11, 2021 at the age of 62 due to organ failure resulting from cardiogenic shock. His fight through a number of cardiac events over the past twenty-seven years showed his courage, determination, and downright stubbornness to live his life on his terms. Despite his ferocity, he left this world peacefully after sharing his final words with his beloved daughters.

Tim was born to Billie Jean and Tommy Bumpass in Lubbock, Texas. The baby of the family, he was doted on by his parents and big sisters during childhood. He graduated high school with honors and attended Texas Tech University before starting his career as a small business owner.

Tim had two daughters – his pride and joy – whom he taught to fish and cook, and, despite their reluctance, a little about sports too. They found tremendous strength of character through their relationships with their very caring and funny father. He helped curate their independence, patience, and compassion through hunting expeditions, embarrassing restaurant reservation names, and embracing his own wild streak.

Tim was a proud member of Indian Creek Masonic Lodge 807, and the Lodge was proud to have him. He was raised as a Master Mason on November 23, 1998 and served the Lodge as a Master Mason in good standing for 22 years. In 2000, he joined the Waco Scottish Rite Bodies. As a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, he was a Master of the Royal Secret. He passionately believed in the community service embodied by the fraternal order.

He retired to Brownsville, Texas where he enjoyed new friends and neighbors, eating both Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican food, and cooking with local ingredients. One of Tim’s favorite places to be was just off the coast, preferably with a fishing rod in hand, and he spent many days in his final years in that happy place.

Tim was preceded in death by his father, Tommy Bumpass, and granddaughter, Helena Ratliff. He is survived by his mother, Billie Jean Bumpass of Brownwood, Texas; his sisters, Rhonda Wickline of Brownwood, Texas and Tommie Jean Wiggins and husband, Mike, of Denison, Texas; his daughters, Stephanie Taylor and husband, Ben, of Martinez, Georgia and Shannon Ratliff and husband, Tyler, of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and friends.

Tim was abundantly generous, giving to a number of charities, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, local food banks and many others. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of these or a charity dear to your heart in his memory.
