Surrounded by his loving family, Steve Main left this Earth to be with God on March 26, 2022 after a brave battle with lung cancer.
Steve was described by friends and loved ones as: fuerte (strong), one of the good guys, coach, mentor, talented artist, creative, witty, fun-loving, giving, hard-working, Purdue Boilermaker, Beta brother, LSU fan, Itchy Bruda, son-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, cousin, Parin, Uncle, Great-Uncle.
He loved his “Girls” – Theresa, his wife of 38.3 years, and Stephanie, his daughter. They loved and adored him. He treasured people as individuals and showed his love for them each day of his life in thoughtful ways.
At family gatherings, he was “the silent one” who would sit back and listen, and then surprise us with a funny zinger that made us laugh till we cried. Carter BloodCare estimates Steve helped over 1,200 people with his regular blood donations.
Steve was often described as a Renaissance Man – bright and witty with broad interests and knowledge. His passion for drawing classic cars began during his college days as an industrial design major at Purdue. The driving force behind MainIdeas, Steve loved to create custom sketches of classic vehicles as a tribute to the owner and their ride. He also drew urban spaces and events for cities including Addison, Farmers Branch and Lewisville.
“Steve especially loved drawing on location—how he saw his surroundings, in that moment, from direct observation. Steve lit up when he was drawing, and that enthusiasm was contagious. I think his legacy to sketchers and aspiring sketchers might be to not get hung up on external validation or social media “likes.” Do it for that inner joy, as Steve did. As Howard Thurman said, ‘Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.’ The world needs more Steve Mains. We miss you,” wrote Jim Richards, one of Steve’s friends.

Steve spent most of his career as a package designer and launched the speciality package divisions of 3 companies. Steve wore many hats (literally and figuratively) collecting baseball caps and t-shirts to capture memories of fun times. He likened himself to Macgyver. He always found uncanny solutions to challenges – whether it was fixing something that was broken or turning something old into a new treasure.
Steve loved listening to music - anything from classic rock to new Texas country. He shared his music enthusiasm with his daughter. They would listen to AC/DC or Guns ‘N Roses on the drive to school everyday. Steve also had a knack for winning concert tickets on the radio.
Steve is preceded in death by Don Main; his father and Carolyn Smith Main; his mother, and Curley Savoy, his father-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Savoy Main; his daughter, Stephanie Main Wastl and her husband, Ryne Wastl; his brother and his wife, David and Donni Main; his mother-in-law, Jane Savoy; and his large extended family.
