OBITUARY
Stanley Cornelio was born on February 8, 1935 to Felix and Marion Cornelio in the town of Paauilo on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. In 1940, the family moved to Honolulu on the Island of Oahu. In 1940, the family moved to Honolulu on the Island of Oahu. The family lived through the bombing of Pearl Harbor and after World War II, moved to the little town of Holualoa on the Big Island.
He attended Holualoa Elementary School and Konawaena High School where he played on the school's varsity basketball team. He graduated from Konawaena High School in 1953. He remained in Kona for two more years where he worked as a diver on the Captain Cook Cruise that sailed daily from Kailua Bay to Kealakekua Bay.
Stan joined the US Navy from 1955 to 1958. In the Navy, he served on the USS Kenneth Whiting, a Seaplane Tender ship that toured the Pacific.
After leaving the Navy, Stan moved to Los Angeles, California where he met and married Maureen Yoneda from Kohala on the Big Island. His daughter, Sandra Lee (aka Sandy) was born in 1959 in Los Angeles.
Stan worked as a property manager in Los Angeles until Maureen's death in 2004. They had been married for 46 years. In 2005, Stan moved to Torrance, California where he pursued one of his favorite pastimes--bowling.
In 2017, Stan moved back to Los Angeles to the same apartment building he managed.
On February 4, 2020 the paramedics transported Stan to Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles due to complications arising from a thyroid imbalance, low body temperature, and low blood pressure. On February 16, 2020, after 12 days in the hospital, Stan passed away at 5:45am.
Stan is survived by his daughter, Sandy Balanay and her children Danielle and Michael Balanay, his niece Gwen Zaragoza and her children Christian, Patrick, Angela, and Brenda, and his brothers Felix, and Michael.
