Sonia Evette Garrastegui

May 30, 1953 - November 26, 2019

Sonia E. Garrastegui passed away on November 26th, 2019. She was born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico on May 30th,1953. She was the youngest daughter of Irma Lopez-Martinez and Angel Lopez. She is survived by her son, George Garrastegui, Jr.; Sisters, Elba and Margarita Ruiz; brothers Rubin Lopez, Sr. and Wilfredo; and was predeceased by her brothers, Angel and Freddy. Family was everything to Sonia and she is also survived by her extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins who she adored. She leaves behind many dear friends and acquaintances that she met along the way. These people were more than friends, they also became part of the family that Sonia cherished so dearly.

Sonia retired from the NYC Department of Transportation as a Senior Staff Analyst after 24 years of service in 2008.  She lived most of her life in the NYC area, but in 2010 move to the Kissimmee area of Florida to enjoy better weather. Over the past nine years, she lived both in Kissimmee and Gainesville, Florida. Sonia will be always remembered for her energy and willingness to have a fun time in any situation. She loved hosting holiday gatherings where family and friends could mingle and enjoy each other’s company.
