After 3 days of fighting really hard, our little Silas went to be with Jesus where he finally gets to rest. Being born at 34 weeks, he suffered a double pneumothorax which led to pulmonary hypertension. From the beginning Silas was a fighter and actually overcame these challenges and enjoyed a really stable 24 hours, but his little body was just not able to fight so hard for so long. Last night, his heart gave out. We got to hold him in our arms for the first and the last time, and he slipped away from us peacefully as we told him something we always tell our oldest son Noah as he goes to sleep: “remember that Mama loves you, Papa’s proud of you, and Jesus is with you.”

Silas short life was amazing, as he amassed a movement of prayer we never knew possible. We got messages from dear friends (and even some we don’t know) in Mauritius, America, India, Africa, and Asia all telling us that they were praying. He did all this just by being very brave.

Silas now shares the middle name, Justice with his twin brother Josiah. The shared a womb for the last year and when we went for sonograms we loved seeing the two of them with their foreheads pressed against one another. They spent 3 days in the NICU together before they were tragically separated. We know that in some way these boys had some sort of special relationship that most of us who are not twins can never understand. We found it fitting that as he grows up, Josiah should carry a little part of his brother with him, to remind him that he’s never alone.
