Please join us in memorializing our mom, Sharrie, in the Larson Hall at ASI. We will eat, drink, sing, laugh and, very possibly, dance in Mom's honor. The semi-serious part begins at 3:00 p.m., when friends and family will have to brave the crowd and perform public speaking. Otherwise, this is a time to reminisce about a fantastic mom, grandma, aunt, friend, and animal lover: Sharrie.
5:00 is not a hard stop. Come when you can. No pressure to attend -- we just want you to know you're in our minds if not in our state or country.
Please wear casual attire and comfortable shoes. Our mom would want you to just have fun and remember her at her best --- her incredible smile, sassy comebacks and ability to bond with anyone.
Please bring your kids. There is parking at ASI, as well as an elevator. Signs will direct you as you enter ASI to Mom's party upstairs.
Of course we're trying to get an estimate of who's coming because we want to be sure we have enough Scandinavian Smörgåsbord to go around. Let us know if you can make it.
Love,
Beth, Marc and Scott

The day she left us was dazzling, sunny and full of blue sky, much like the color of her eyes. She closed them for the final time at 11:20 a.m. when she heard God’s heavenly choir —and probably decided they were in need of an alto.
Mom was a beautiful singer and loved to harmonize. Many will remember how her voice rang out above all others. In the last few years, Lewy Body dementia had weakened Mom’s lovely vocal cords, along with every other muscle in her body. Her radiant smile remained and when she listened to music, we could imagine how much she wanted to get up and dance.
Because, wow, could she dance! Mom’s dance floor moves were epic, handed down from a pair of music-loving parents who would waltz until dusk in quiet fields. She’s joyfully reunited now with her mother and father, Mora and Hjalmar Peterson, and her brother, Karl. Her beloved grandma, Gina Engebretson, will have already set out fresh coffee and ginger snap cookies for their visit.
While she was with us, the center of Mom’s universe included Olivia, Kate and Hayden — grandchildren who were frequently dropped off at her home and loved A LOT. What she would do and endure to please them is too much to recount. She seriously loved children and would not pass up an opportunity to say hello to any infant or toddler she happened to meet.
Sharrie also loved furry babies. Over the years, she would welcome several cats and dogs into her home, where they received an obscene amount of affection, the best food and the run of counters and furniture. She also loved tending her flowers, being with friends, walking around Lake Nokomis, reading, traveling to the family cabin, and celebrating her Scandinavian heritage.
It would take many pages to describe Mom’s amazing friendships and how much they meant to her. She had an uncanny ability to surround herself with the best of the best females throughout her entire life. Her soul sisters/ kindred spirits are numerous. Thanks, especially, to dear Norma and Carol, for your constant love and attention as Mom declined. Likewise, we want to acknowledge the staff at Sunrise of Edina for their devotion, sensitivity and tenderness as our mom progressed through this awful disease.
As her children, we could always rely on her to show up — with food, wise counsel and the best hugs ever. Mom also brought beauty, strength and a sharp wit to our lives. We will miss her, very much.
Our mom was a constant advocate for animals and supported a number of rescue organizations. She would be honored if you would give memorials to Home for Life (www.homeforlife.org), a sanctuary for unadoptable cats and dogs.
We will remember and celebrate Sharrie on Sunday, September 15, 2019 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the American Swedish Institute.
