Roger Sothman was born on November 2, 1947, and grew up on a farm in Russell, Minnesota, with his parents Irma and Willes, along with his sisters Betty, Linda and Vicky, and his brothers Alan and Dale.
Roger followed his passion for flying and became a professional pilot. He started out as a flight instructor for Crystal Shamrock flight school in 1967. He then moved on to be an air freight pilot with Viking Airlines, and then in 1976 he became a corporate pilot for ARAMCO, relocating his family for a three year adventure in Saudi Arabia.
The Sothmans returned to Minnesota in 1979 whereupon Roger landed his dream job as an airline pilot for North Central Airlines. He stayed with that same airline through out multiple mergers, working his way up from First Officer to eventually Captain.
Roger retired in 2007, eager to begin a new chapter in his life. He and his wife Maridee relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, to enjoy their golden years as full-time grandparents and RV travelers.
Roger passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Wednesday, August 11, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maridee; his son Chris and wife Wendy; his daughter Lisa and husband Pranot; and his three grandchildren Kara, Chloe and Alana.
As per his wishes, Roger did not want a big production made about his passing, so there will be no service or funeral. Roger simply wants everyone to focus on the good memories we all had of him. He will be missed dearly.
