AFTERGLOW
I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

Steve lived in Anderson, California and died there at his home.
He is survived by step-daughter, Tina Thorsen, son-in-law, Shane Thorsen and grandsons, Nathaniel, Justin and Logan. One sister, Carol Williams, Cousin Linda Edwins, numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Steve was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas and moved to California at 5 years of age. He attended school in the Richmond area and graduated from De Anza High School in 1968.
Following high school, Steve joined the Army and studied electronics, then served a year and a half in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart. He always had a story to share if you asked about his time spent as a helicopter door gunner with the 101st Airborne Air Assault Division.
Steve had a successful long career with BART working in different positions for over 3 decades. He always spoke fondly of his BART buddies that he worked with over the years. Even after his retirement, he kept in touch with many of them.
Steve loved riding motorcycles and racing them also. He did so well that he ended up with a big collection of trophies. Steve also raced a stock car for several seasons. It was so much fun to go and watch him compete. He always had the need for speed!
You could always get a fantastic .50 cent tour when you came up to visit Steve. While driving you through the scenic routes of the mountains and towns, he would provide an interesting history about the area and make sure to point out all the sites to see. He was an exceptional guide!
Some of his passions were animals and nature. You could always find him with birds, dogs, and even a cat at his home. He loved animals and spoiled them. Steve enjoyed watching all the wildlife come and go through his yards. He cared for and fed many of the critters that visited daily.
Steve was a good man and had a heart of gold. He wouldn't think twice about lending a hand to family, friends, neighbors and others in need. He gave to animal and veteran charities on a regular basis and helped out with the fire victims as well. He was highly respected, admired and loved by many.
Family was of paramount importance to him and Steve cherished his relatives who were nearby and far away. He always made it a point to visit when he could. We never seemed to get enough time during visits with him. It always went by so quickly.
You are, and will always be remembered with much love, Steve!
