Randye Brooks, 61, died at home Sunday December 13, 2020 after courageously battling ALS. Randye is survived by her wife Kael Brooks and an assortment of adoring dogs.
Randye was the spirited and fearless daughter of the late Gerald and Barbara Brooks, sister to Gary Brooks and sister-in-law to Sandy Brooks. Randye loved being an aunt to Gabrielle Brooks and Rebecca Magrisso (Brooks). She shared with them the finest things in life: slip and slides, mac n’ cheese and a little bit of mischief. Randye was proud of the accomplished and independent women they have become.
Randye grew up on the south shore and graduated from Stoughton High. She spent her early days rolling down hills, catching bullfrogs, and cultivating her need for speed. After losing her parents, she found comfort in her best friend Kathy Derochea (Uniacke). She gained an accomplice in her ventures and a surrogate family who loved her as one of their own.
Randye loved competition and enjoyed softball, foosball and a good game of cards. She was an avid Boston sports fan and watched each game with intensity - as if she was getting paid to play. Randye was best known for her love and talent for ice hockey. She had a natural born ability, but that wasn't enough. Her physical and mental tenacity, highly competitive nature and love of the game fueled her passion for perpetual self improvement. Contentment was never an option and it showed in her many achievements.
Randye loved the simple things in life - the ocean, heart shaped rocks and a good true-crime mystery. She loved animals and had compassion for every critter that crossed her path. While her home was always filled with a variety of cats and dogs, she was also known to play the role of squirrel rescuer, goose tamer and turtle crossing guard. She took these responsibilities seriously.
Randye loved independence, adventure, and speed. She was a motorcycle aficionado who grew up watching her father ride. For over forty years, she found peace and serenity on her bike. She enjoyed scenic coastal rides; her most memorable trips were to Laconia and Daytona Bike Weeks and a rainy foray to Key West.
Randye was dynamic and determined. Be it her life-long career in the autobody industry, her artistic talent or her ability to build and fix anything, she never settled for simply holding her own - even in male-dominated professions. When faced with a challenge, she met it with an innate level of proficiency and ingenuity. She didn’t settle, she didn’t compromise and when she wanted something, she was all in.
She gained many close friends and knew which ones to hold tightly. Her best friends, Kathy Brunelle, Mary O'Halloran and Tina Doherty, became her family and were gifted with the unique task of fostering (and sometimes curbing) Randye’s tenacity. Randye became an integral part of their families and was loved by all.
Randye never got complacent. She challenged herself to seek inner growth and to love herself more fully. Randye recently married and was blessed with unconditional love and a devoted wife. She found peace and contentment and knew how much she mattered. Kael’s love and support during Randye’s darkest time was her greatest gift from a spouse.
She is loved beyond measure.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS association.
