Richard Patrick Magrath III, of Westwood, CA, passed away unexpectedly on July 28, 2020. Patrick was born in Manchester, CT, on September 27, 1988, but spent most of his young life in Atlanta, Georgia.

After arriving 2 months early, with potential lung complications, he grew into a 6’4” state runner-up swimmer. Patrick loved to help, teach, and comfort people. He had an uncanny ability to make friends with anyone in the room and to have an in-depth conversation on any topic. He was also an avid traveler, a wonderer, and a free spirit. His unique travel experiences would be the basis of many stories and much laughter. In his 31 years, he lived a life that many will never experience.

Patrick was a problem solver, a voracious reader, and an amazing teacher.  He had an unquenchable passion for learning. He did not want to solve little problems; he wanted to cure cancer and other diseases that plague mankind. He had a unique ability to take complicated subject matters and explain them in a way that anyone could understand. Patrick was a dedicated and accomplished scholar. He completed his B.S. in Biomedical engineering at Georgia Tech followed by his M.S. at Northwestern University. He was in the process of pursuing his PhD at the University of California Los Angeles.

He is predeceased by his father, Richard P. Magrath, grandparents, Richard P. Magrath, Kathryn K. Magrath, and William K. Lauritsen. He is survived by his mother, Barbara J. Magrath, brother, Sean P. Magrath, sister-in-law M. Hannah Magrath, grandmother Shirley A. Lauritsen and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

A virtual funeral service will be held Monday, August 10^th at 4:00 PM EST. Following the service there will be a virtual reception to celebrate his life and share memories. Please be on the lookout for a link sent via email.
