Pauline Beurskens was an incredible woman. In her long life of 93 years, she played many roles. In her childhood, she was a farm girl, climbing trees and helping her mother care for their farm and her siblings: Lilah, Frank and Myrl. In her teens, she took Home Ec classes at Marshall High School, was a cheerleader for high school sports and was proposed to by several different suitors. Her 20s were full of church involvement, marriage to the love of her life, Fred William Beurskens as well as her first babies, Linda Ann Beurskens and William Fred Beurskens and her niece Melody Morehead & nephews Joel Jennings and Glen Morehead. She loved to tend her garden and keep her Granada Hills home beautiful - even setting the table differently each night for her family. Her 30s brought a move to Receda as well as an unexpected surprise in baby Richard Paul Beurskens. She continued to serve in her church ministry as the head of the Kindergarten education department. In her 40s, Fred and Pauline moved to their San Diego home and she went back to work as a medical assistant. She traveled the world with Fred in her 50s - all across Europe. In her 60s, she hosted a multitude of parties in her beautiful San Diego home including her infamous garden parties displaying up to 100 different varieties of roses and flowers in her garden; she also welcomed her grandchildren: Bob Brettell, Joseph Brettell, Katie Beurskens, Carrie Beurskens, Vanessa (Brettell) Combs and Matthew Beurskens and her great nephews & niece: Noel Jerke, Brett & Melanie Jennings; she sadly also lost her dear son, Richard. In her 70s, she continued to enjoy her grandchildren, retirement with her dear husband Fred, church activities and maintaining her immaculately decorated Victorian home and garden. In her 80s & 90s, she became a widow after losing her sweet hubby but also welcomed 8 great-grandchildren: Charlotte & Logan Brettell, Parker Brettell, Brooklynn Combs, Jack & Everly Brettell, Rebecca Combs and Caleb Brettell and a great-great niece, Zoey Alvord. She held every child, grandchild and great-grandchild in her arms and held a world of people in her heart and prayers.
Her faith in God was the central force of her very being and defined how she made most decisions in life. Her love of family was next on her list and her love of all things lovely, proper and beautiful beyond that. She was the Queen of our family and we will miss her caring heart and constant prayers.
