I looked up to you, and wanted to be like you, you are my role model and I have learnt from your life as a father, uncle, believer, and lawyer (also as lover of cars). I can't believe you are now gone. Uncle Owolabi and my father were character twins. Whenever we met, he was always lively and cheerful. He was the boisterous, gregarious uncle who brightened things up. Uncle was a hard worker who was also friendly and caring. He was always putting in long hours in his work, which I admire. He is very valuable to my family as well as myself. His absence will really be felt. I cherish him and will miss him tremendously. It saddens me that I am writing this tribute this early in my cousins and my life. I am glad for all the fun moments, pleasant outings and sleepovers. Uncle's memories will live on in my heart and mind for the rest of my life.
Condolences to all those who are mourning his departure; we shall get through it with God's grace. Regardless of how bad circumstances appear to be, God never gives us more than we can handle. Continue to be courageous and patient. My heartfelt condolences go out to my wonderful cousins, aunty Funke Owolabi Odekunle, and the entire family who are mourning his passing. I tried to be unassuming in any fellowship, group or... moreI want to say bro Owolabi's indelible impact is cherished greatly. I met him as a member of ovcf, he was one of the alumni member (OVCAF) that I always look forward to hearing, seeing in our reunion. I tried to be unassuming in any fellowship, group or church but he was able to identify with me. I will always be thankful to God that I learned some leadership qualities from him. Even after school I interacted with him about my career because we share the same profession, he advised that I should come home from the Northern part of the country that he will ensure I get a place at Kola Awodein S.A.N. that it's better I start on good ground ( then he was a partner in the firm). I insisted I will not return to the South because of personal reasons. He made effort to secure a place for me in the Abuja Office but we couldn't get it, but he told me that I should practice and I followed his advice. People like bro Owolabi, other seniors and friends in OVCAF taught us practical christinity. I pray that God will continue to uphold the fellowship and the alumni body.
The memory of the righteous is blessed.

Despite all the challenges that came with the assignment, one thing stood out about you and that is, you were very good and passionate in what you do.

Bro Owolabi was the one we made our marriage accountability partner and in those early years, he invested wisdom into our marriage. Bro Owolabi and Sis Funke walked our fertility journey with us and we became family. Our nuclear and extended families knew bro Owolabi, bro Owolabi is well known in our church…haaa! bro Owolabi is(was) larger than life. A spiritual giant with such depth of the Word and an unrivaled fervency for prayer. We are comforted knowing that The master Weaver is fully in control. Your relevance across all generations in Ovcaf is unrivalled. You don't use your resources to buy relationships, you rather lavish it on both those you've built with and even those you don't have a relationship with.
Our joy is yours and you ache genuinely when we are in pain.
When Seun and I went through fertility treatments, you stood with us through the journey. You prayed with me with so much excitement when you heard I was elected OVCAF Chairman like if you hadn't occupied it previously, some years back.
You're a “talk and do”man! You exemplified it first with your immediate family. You spare no expense in ensuring your family’s well being. You cared for us but never neglecting your family. I learnt from you that quality must never be sacrificed on the altar of price.
Your spiritual depth would have stood you apart as a G.O in your own right, yet your commitment and your soul was already sold out to service rather than title.
We started as someone I admire (surrounded by many sisters and yet no scandal) and wanted to be like. I informed you about having numerous ladies asking me out and you looked me in the face and said, *"Dupe, don't fail this test. Heavens want to be sure that the daughters of the kingdom can be committed to your care"* You drew me closer to mentor me, we grew to become friends till we became brothers. I’m glad that in April, 2021, on my 17th wedding anniversary, I had the opportunity to tell you “thank you” for all you deposited in my life and family.
Bro Owolabi, i can't deny your human fraility but i can never second guess your sincerity. Your finicky disposition to your vehicles and your audacious boldness may be interpreted by some as arrogance but i know better .

A Faithful Man has left the realm of mortals!
I met Bro Owolabi in 1995, as a young and innocent first-year undergraduate when I joined the Evangelism Band of OVCF, of which he was the leader at the time. He immediately took me under his wings, and thus began a precious relationship which transcended friendship: Bro Owolabi was truly my father, even more than my own dad at a time when that was what I needed more than anything else in the world.
He led me, guided me, protected me, counselled me, taught me the Scriptures (woe betide you if Brother Owo quoted half of a bible verse while speaking with you and you couldn’t complete it accurately: that would be the start of another Bible Study session for you!). When I had to leave Medicine for a year after failing a course in 100 level, he stood by me and for me, held my hand through the whole year and the years after, supported me in every way possible, and taught me faith during my darkest days. He took me in, went further to adopt all my friends, and brought us all under his nurturing wings. He was a very big and active part of our lives for many years, all the way to the end of his journey on this earth. A large part of who I am today is thanks to the foundation Bro Owolabi laid in my life, and for that I owe a debt of gratitude.
He was selfless: there was never anything too trivial for him, he would drop everything to come to our aid wherever we were and whenever we were in difficulty, he would create time for us always, he would move mountains and make things happen for us no matter what, he always had a listening ear and the wisest counsel. Impossible was not in his dictionary. And he was bold as a lion, always!
He stayed involved in our lives, all the way from Ago Iwoye to Sagamu, and to all the different parts of the world as we got scattered abroad. Brother Owolabi nurtured and guided Gbenga and I through the years of friendship and relationship while in school, and gave us the courage to take the bold step into marriage even when the calculations and timing looked crazy. He stood as witness on our wedding day. We will forever be grateful for his unwavering belief in us.
His home was always open to me, and to so many of us, both while in Uni and after school. His home was Home for us, we were never visitors. His cooking was top-notch! I want to particularly thank Sister Funke for her graciousness and acceptance of so many of us through all those years, it could not have been easy, especially in the early days, but she took it all in her stride and opened her large heart to us all, enabling Brother mi Owo to be the blessing he was meant to be.
My father, this news came as a huge shock. I don’t know if it is possible to get over it. You spoke with Gbenga just ten days before this exit, we never knew it would be for the last time. My heart is broken. But I take solace in the fact that you have gone to the Better Place, this life's struggles are over and now you have preceded us into Glory. You poured yourself forth and withheld nothing. You were always a willing tool in the Master's hand, and we are grateful for your service. You were faithful, diligent, and upright in the handling of all that was placed in your charge.
I remain most grateful that our paths crossed in this life, it is God’s greatest gift and blessing, and a huge privilege to have been one of Father Abraham's daughters. As the saying goes, no man is perfect, but as for me, I find no fault in you. Go well, faithful servant. Your family here will be well. Until we meet again in the Morning.

I remember the days we plied Cotonou, to buy cars. I remember especially the time we went together to get my first car. I remember the first time we had an accident.... it was just God. The car summersulted on our way out of Ago-iwoye after we visited OVCF. I remember the second accident around Ifo on our way back from OVCAF EXCO vigil in Abeokuta. You were dozing. I kept saying, bro Owolabi, e nsun (you're
😴). You kept saying you're okay. Till we heard gbam. Our eyes became clear.
I remember way back 1993, when you used to "fly" OVCF bus... Amazing Grace, from Ago to Ijebu Igbo. With us screaming as you enjoyed yourself. By the time I drop at Oru, I'm giddy already from your driving. You were the first person I knew that used to pray for a vehicle. You prayed for safety and you salvation of those entered the bus.
Those countless Abuja by road trips you made and the escapades you shared. I kept saying bro Owolabiiii, ‘e lo wo plane’. But you enjoyed driving and loved being on the road. I sincerely don’t know how your wife was comfortable with it. I used to be scared for you.
I remember when you were taking my colleague and I to your apartment at games village Abuja. My colleague kept saying, "shey bi won se nwa prado labuja niyi?". I told him, we call you Jehu. You drove us round town at record time for our meetings. Your boldness is on another level. You had your way with vehicles. You were so assertive when it comes to your cars. You want them clean and functional and would rather dispose of a big non functional for a smaller one.
I remember several exco trips and meetings. I remember several interventions and sacrifices you made on behalf of others. O'boy....you gave. You really did give yourself.
You number was one of my ICE(In Case of Emergency) to call. Several times I called you to intervene or help someone. You never ceased to help.
During my tenure as OVCAF chairman, you offered valuable advice often. Of course when we didnt agree and I insisted. You came back later after thinking it through and say, "bro Feyi, that thing you said was right o".
Kai, you loved your wife and the way you call her name, leemewa. Your children were your world. Your sacrifices on them, is not in vain.
I must not forget your love for good food.........my brother liked to cook. Amala in Ibadan, always on point. Lol
For over 26yrs, you were a brother and friend with loads of benefits. Your memory will linger forever and they are truly fond, forgettable, ever vivid and heartwarming! The most beautiful things are not associated with money; they are memories and moments. Good night bro
Hmmm. Bro Owolabi thank God for the life you lived. Selfless, unassuming, energetic, full of life and most importantly a lover of God. I remembered my first close encounter with him in 1992 if I am not mistaken. It was during the long ASUU strike in that year and he came to my house in Ibadan in the company of Sis Laide Adeyemo nee Ogunfeibo. . Very open, sincere, bold, humble, generous to a fault and carry peoples matter till it is settled. Knowing him was a blessing and a privilege. A prayer warrior, destiny helper, never complaining, a man of integrity with a wide smile and bear hug.

I remember, he was the 1st person to fry plantain with ata gigun for me. Several days, we will just finish school and move to his house in Itamerin. He will cook for us. I remember when Tayo Ogunnoiki - my fiance then died in 400L, Bro Owolabi drove down from Lagos packed my load from Ijebu Igbo and took me to his house at ltamerin.
This was to ensure no one tells me before I finished my exams.
When I eventually got to know he took me home.
My final year Was Very rough for obvious reasons but Bro Owolabi stood by me.
He was delayed for Law school, so we were in Law school together. Bro Owolabi took me to Bwari Law School and brought me back home on every trip till we finished law school. He was so protective that intended toasters had to go through him before approaching me.

How does one write a tribute on someone like you? How? I am not one that is ever short on words for anything but here I find my limitation. Alas, it is true our own Bro Owolabi is dead. Death is cursed! In the midst of gloom, I will focus on the bright side.
In my years of sojourn in OSU and OVCF , you were a picture of consistency, faithfulness and steadfastness. Your leadership of the OVCAF, Transport and Final Year Brethren of the Fellowship reflected leadership in a way I am yet to see anywhere else. You were simply always there. Was it the Reunions, missions or those ones to Ago iwoye year in, year out.
Your exemplary leadership remained a source of inspiration to many of us.
Never for once did you complain of the distance of your home or place of work to Ago Iwoye; yours was a case of faithfulness unrivalled. You served God and today you have entered into your rest and your reward.

With tearful eyes I could hardly mutter words to unravel you. Do I recall the family bond we forged in early parenting, or the travails we bore over OVCF or burning blaze for OVCAF? Not only was your home my family home much more was your heart my solace. You looked out for me and dreamt dreams giving prominent seat for me. Owo, you dreamt!

I remember the aura he exudes when he walk into any gathering. I admired his humility and passion for God. When he speaks you can quickly tell he means business. He was not a man to mince words. The few times I encountered him during those OVCAF reunions in Ago-iwoye was impactful.
I have had a hard time processing this news. Your passing is an reminder of the urgency of the work bestowed upon us by our Father. This scripture comes to mind in John 9:4, "I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work."

Some things I will forever remember him for? His large heart, generousity, ability to connect with younger generation.
His fire-brand zeal and passion for the Kingdom work.
My last exchange with him was on OVCAF platform. He replied to my post.
One of my favourite leaders in OVCAF.
One of those who made people like us wanted to give our all to OVCAF!
May God uphold his family and comfort them at this trying time.
What did I learn from this great man's death?
- Whatever I want to do for God; the time is now. We will not be here forever!

I remember, he was the 1st person to fry plantain with ata gigun for me. Several days, we will just finish school and move to his house in Itamerin. He will cook for us. I remember when Tayo Ogunnoiki - my fiance then died in 400L, Bro Owolabi drove down from Lagos packed my load from Ijebu Igbo and took me to his house at ltamerin.
This was to ensure no one tells me before I finished my exams.
When I eventually got to know he took me home.
My final year Was Very rough for obvious reasons but Bro Owolabi stood by me.
He was delayed for Law school, so we were in Law school together. Bro Owolabi took me to Bwari Law School and brought me back home on every trip till we finished law school. He was so protective that intended toasters had to go through him before approaching me.

I asked 'what will be your reply?'

I belong to the younger or Middle generation. But Owolabi kan OVCAF kan ni. He is so humble and teachable. Quick to apologise and become your friend. I remember a time I challenged him on an issue at Ago Iwoye. I was thinking he will get angry and rubbish my opinion but NO Bro Owolabi listened well and apologized. He is always ready to path with his resources sometimes he does not have it readily available but he will look for someone that has it and get it to you.
