Juanita Colley Rueth was a firecracker. Deeply passionate about her beliefs and determined to advocate for the people, she championed independence, freedom and family. Having left Indiana as a truck-racing farm girl to elope with Tony in 1961, she instantly embraced the spirit of a Texan. Nita was involved in many civic organizations, although most would say that a pivotal part of her legacy was the tireless work she dedicated to protecting and incorporating the City of Oak Leaf in 1983. She then served as the City's Secretary until her retirement. Stories abound about the work done in her home office, the organizing and the community reach it took. But Nita herself would have claimed her legacy was actually her children- Thomas, Victoria, Kathleen, Brian and Corey and her beloved grandchildren, Jason, Canon and Amanda. Nita lived a full life of adventures, victories and losses with her best friend Tony for over 60 years, through tremendous love, determination and an insistence upon having a great sense of humor when things got tough.
Nita was a fierce lover of family, home, laughter and music, raising a family of talented musicians who gather often to sing together. We imagine conducting her celebration in this spirit.
Please consider coming to the in-person celebration of life held in Waxahachie Texas on 3/28/22. Nita was clear that she did not want a funeral surrounded with sadness, but a party that allows us to laugh and remember her impact together.
Every effort will be made to ensure this a covid-safe event (details about the celebration are below)

What a joy she was as a parent as was Corey as a student! I was terribly saddened by her passing and am so sorry I missed the celebration of her life. I know how heartbroken Tony and her extraordinary children must be. I am wishing you all peace and wishes your happy memories exceed your current sadness. With love and deepest sympathy to all who loved Nita. Gayle Tuma less

She was instrumental in getting the AZ/CO Rueth clan in touch with the TX Rueth’s, and as a result a lot of love, camaraderie, and admiration has flowed between our families. Whenever I traveled to the Dallas area on business I would let Nita know, and she always had time to organize a family dinner at a place that was convenient for me and also had fabulous food and beer! I always looked forward to laughing, telling our stories, and seeing Nita’s beautiful smile. She will always live on in my heart and memories. less

She was visiting us in Indiana, as a young teen I got a bottle of pop out of the fridge. It had a plastic cap on it to keep it fresh. I decided to give it a shake and pop the top like a champagne cork. well it came off with more force than I thought it would, flew across the dinning room and hit my dad right under the eye. he immediately started to yell at me, aunt Nita had wittnessed the whole thing and was laughing so hard she was on her knees. Because she was laughing so hard at what had just happened, I didn't even get in trouble. Thank you Aunt Nita. Love you less
