MICHEAL LYNN STERRETT-
Micheal (Mike) Lynn Sterrett, 75, joined Heaven’s angels on December 9th, 2021, at Kansas City Hospice from respiratory failure. He was surrounded by family and continued to be the life of the party until his passing. He was born on May 17, 1946, in Norton Kansas, the son of Raymond and Mary Rose Sterrett. Micheal was the second of seven boys (Patrick, Jack, Bob, Dick, Tim, and Bradley) and gave them all a run for their money. He was known to ride a horse through his dear friend’s house, jumping freight trains, bringing the belcher’s down in the high school football state finals, and for his faithful paperboy route. While in Norton, he held many athletic records and starred in musical performances. When his number was up for the Vietnam War, he served with honor as a medic in Colorado. After the war, he spent two years in the seminary at St Marys in Lebanon, KY. This clearly was not God’s plan for him.
In 1971, Micheal graduated Magna Su Laude from KU with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry and a B.S. in Nursing Education from KU Medical Center. He went on to the School of Allied Help, at KU Medical Center, and received an M.A. from the School of Audiology. While in college, he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Following his graduation, he began his career as a businessman in audiology. Before becoming a pioneer in the audiology industry, he served the Topeka School District as a Chief Audiologist. He would work with many companies and was the co-founder of Impact Hearing in Kansas City. He would find a home in 2005 at Examinetics in Overland Park, KS. He served as the Senior VP of Sales at Examinetics until 2020.
In 1974 he married Sherry Mann, mother of Chad Gasper, and the two would give birth to their daughter, Stacey (Sterrett) White (1976). In 1988, he married Rita Franken (Sterrett) at the Vatican. Together they had Morgan Sterrett(1996) and Micheal Sterrett II (1998). In 2003, he began a life partnership with Sue Cooney. They traveled the world together and made a lifetime’s worth of memories surrounded by their friend and children.
He was a proud member of Brookridge Country Club and Country Club of Leawood. His perfect day was a morning of golf and a day of swimming with his family. He was a father to many and a mentor to all that met him. He was the life of every party, and now he is the ultimate party host to the angels. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers Bob, Dick, and Father Bradley Sterrett, along with sister-in-law Sharon Sterrett. He is survived by his children, Stacey, Morgan, Micheal, Chad, Son-in-law Mark and son-in-law to be Layne; his grandchildren, Alexis, Patrick, Devon, Joey, Carson, Chloe, and Gwen; partner, Sue Cooney, and her children; and brothers, Patrick (wife Janette, children Sam and Carrie), brother Jack (wife Quinidine, children Sarah and Nick), Sister-in-law Connie (children Paul and Bethany), and brother Tim (wife Terry and children Anne and Cameron), along with their families.
Micheal was blessed with the virtue of helping others and a love of life. His goal in life was to make everyone feel at home and valued.
Services will all be held on December 17, 2021. A Catholic funeral will be held at Church of the Nativity in Leawood, KS. 10:00 am Rosary, 10:20 am Eulogy and Presentation of the Flag, 10:30 am Mass.
