Michael Emmet Young, ambitious builder, world traveler, and loving father, passed away on August 21, 2020.
Mike was born on January 25, 1947 to Doris Young and George W. Young in San Francisco. He was the father of two sons, Nicholas and Brendan, and one daughter, Mackenzie.
Mike was always an adventurer and a lifelong learner. He started his career in oceanography and ended in computer programming. He was never still in retirement, and traveled up to half the year visiting almost 100 countries in his life. He made friends around the world during his travels and was quick to offer his support, like lending a hand to construct a new home for someone in need. Land, sea and air, he sailed boats, built and flew airplanes and was building his second cabin when he passed away. Always eager to hear or tell a joke, he loved laughing, celebrating life and cooking elaborate meals for his friends and family. He introduced his sons to fishing, hunting and outdoorsmanship, trying to instill some toughness despite his soft, inner heart.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, George, mother, Doris, and his sister, Virginia. He is survived by his sister, Penny (Dennis), his three children, Nick (Heather), Brendan (Molly) and Mackenzie, his grandson, Arie, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
