We created a GatheringUs memorial to celebrate the life of Melvin S. Wilhoite. Collecting your stories and memories here will offer us great comfort. If we plan virtual gatherings, we will post invites. Thank you for contributing to this lasting memorial.

Melvin S. Wilhoite was born into this world on the 20th of February in 1944 to Harry Wilhoite and Willie Mae Wilhioite (Cunningham) who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his siblings, Dean, Harold, William, Allen, Annette, Geraldetta, Mary, and Shirley. Melvin served our country in the United States Army. He was a man who was an enigma in many ways. Melvin was never overly social, he believed what he believed and once he decided to help someone, nothing anyone could say would change that. For the remaining nieces and nephews who have all lost a Wilhoite, we grieve over the loss of our last uncle of the Wilhoite bloodline. Melvin was very ill during the last weeks of his life. Although his body tried to fight, it was ultimately too much and he succumbed. We will hold and cherish the memories we have of him in the coming days as we celebrate his life and remember him.
I will way always remember you Uncle Melvin, as a kind and gentle man. When I close my eyes and remember you I see you smiling. I will always remember you Uncle Melvin.
ready to try and help if he could. So gentle in spirit. You Uncle will be greatly missed. I remember when you had return from the war and had sat down and share some of your rations with me. I thought it was the best food ever!!! You did'nt talk much... moreready to try and help if he could. So gentle in spirit. You Uncle will be greatly missed. You did'nt talk much about the war but you I knew you just wanted to spare us of the bad parts and only of the special things like those good old cans of meat. I loved them. less
