Mark Kenneth Meggert, 49, of Fowlerville, died suddenly on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at his home. He was born May 16, 1971 to Ken and Mary (Kemnitz) Meggert.
Mark was a 1994 graduate of Eastern Michigan University where he studied Business Administration. He made his career as a Project Manager with Norfolk Homes for over 20 years. As a gifted self-made mechanic, he also spent many evenings and weekends in his barn helping friends and area families with car and boat repairs. He never said no to anyone who needed help. He gained great satisfaction from doing work worth doing and doing it well. Mark was a quiet man with a quick wit, who chose his words carefully - always reflecting deeply before sharing impactful thoughts or ideas that motivated others to do their best.
He was most at home when he was in nature. The youngest of four children, he loved playing in the dirt from sunrise to sunset where his sisters wouldn’t bother him. Influenced by his Dad, he was definitely an outdoorsman to the core. He became an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his Dad fished the big lakes often – but North Manitou Island waters were their favorite spot. Over the years, he made frequent trips to Ossineke, Michigan where he spent time hunting with his Dad, cousins, and children…shooting his first spike-horn buck at age 14 and stocking the freezer for years to come.
He raised two children, with his wife, Jeanette, whom he married in 1997. Spending time with friends and family was a top priority for Mark - especially his niece and nephew and new twin granddaughters. The best of times were the simplest of times - family dinners or sitting on the porch sharing a cup of coffee with Mark. He loved going out for chicken wings and was a grilling master. He was a great listener and his humorous insight often brought quick-witted responses to make everyone laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Wensley) of Fowlerville, MI, his son Andrew (Zoe) of Cave Springs, AR, his daughter Christianna of Detroit, MI, his mother, Mary (Kemnitz) Meggert of Alpena, his three sisters; Jodie (Brian) Salem of Denver, CO, Shari Henneberry of Monroe, GA, Vicki Kottong of Alpena, MI, twin granddaughters; Charlotte and Piper Meggert and his beloved nieces: Amanda Meggert-Pierce, Emme Kottong and nephew, Jack Kottong along with many dear friends and co-workers. Mark is predeceased by his father, Kenneth Meggert.
The family will honor his memory with a celebration of life picnic when it is safe to do so. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in his memory to honor his love for the outdoors or make a donation to a charity of your choosing.
