Margaret (Peggy) McHenry, formerly of Hazlet, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at Sunrise Senior Living in Hermosa Beach, CA after years of battling Alzheimer’s. 

The youngest of three, Peggy was born in the Bronx, NY in 1945. She moved to Bronxville, NY in 1962 where she attended Blessed Sacrament Academy. She went on to work as a statistical typist for the Standard Oil Company, now known as Exxon, for many years. 

She met the love of her life, Bill, on a ski trip to Eastover in Lenox, MA in 1967. The pair were married in April of 1970, quickly started a family and settled in Hazlet, NJ in 1973 where they raised two children and spent the rest of their lives together. 

Family was the end-all-be-all, center of Peggy’s world. She never missed a wrestling match or dance class and was ready with cupcakes for each and every school party. Not one family BBQ missed out on her famous potato salad and there was always a home cooked meal on the table that was shared with her children, siblings and friends. She was the absolute glue that held everyone together. After raising their children, Peggy went back to work as a secretary at a CPA office and remained in that career for 27 years before retiring. This enabled her to spend all of her time gardening, traveling, sightseeing, and just enjoying being in the company of her best friend, and husband, Bill. They remained in Hazlet together until Bill’s passing in 2017 and she then moved to Hermosa Beach, CA to be near her daughter.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill and parents William and Agnes Bernhart. She is survived by her loving children, Craig W. McHenry and his wife, Tetine Sentell, of Honolulu, Hawaii and Jeannine McHenry and her husband, Anthony Vito Fiore, of Hermosa Beach, California; her dear siblings, Mae Bracken and her husband, Joe and Carolyn Matlosz along with her cherished grandchildren, Linden, Maile, and Enzo, and many treasured nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family, and friends. She will forever be remembered for her beyond generous heart and warm smile that lit up each and every room she entered. While no words can express how much she will be missed, there is comfort in knowing that she and Bill are at peace and once again together.

A celebration of her life will be held in New Jersey and announced at a later date.
