Nana, as everyone...  see moreMargaret Barbara Hopko Wasicsko was born in the family home on Walnut Street in Yonkers, New York on August 26, 1923. She joined her beloved husband, Michael, on October 7, 2020, departing from her home in Hialeah, FL where she raised her family, laughed, and enjoyed life for 66 years. Nana, as everyone called her, had four children, 12 grandchildren, and, 19 great grandchildren who she kept track of on Facebook. She frequently knew more about their goings-on than their own parents. Her ability to remember events, names, and places made her the living historian not only for the family but for Yonkers and the Slovak Holy Trinity Parish. When told of Nana’s passing, a grandchild said, “She is the person we all want to be when we grow up—saying what’s on our minds and still being kind and open minded.” Beneath a stoic composure, she was a person of deep faith and feelings and, paraphrasing Pope Francis who she frequently mentioned, she dealt with her life’s challenges knowing she was not alone. She will be missed by so many who’s lives she touched. A mass in her honor will be celebrated Tuesday October 13, 2020, 12:30 p.m at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church 15801 NW 67th Ave Miami Lakes, FL 33014 United States *Cemetery is for immediate family only please. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to St. Judes Children’s Hospital (http://stjude.org) are welcomed. ( flowers are not permitted at the church )
