Madie Rae Miller Weeks Pollard was born in Eldorado, Arkansas, on October 17, 1927, to parents Louella Dodge and John Richard Miller, Jr. On November 2, 2020, Madie passed away, peacefully, under the tender care of the staff at Gracey Woods II Nursing Home and New Century Hospice in Austin, Texas, after a long struggle with dementia. Despite her long illness, everyone who worked with her commented that she always kept her beautiful smile and easy laughter and made each day a pleasant experience.
Madie was raised in Pineville, Louisiana, and attended Bolton High School in the next door town of Alexandria. Her love of music was expressed by playing the clarinet in the school’s marching band, by the sound of music that was consistently heard throughout her childhood home and her attendance at the United Services Organizations (USO) dances for WWII soldiers, which provided fond memories she always liked to share.
On March 24, 1946, Madie married Ray Weeks and they eventually moved to Pasadena, Texas, where they raised their four children. Madie’s love of music continued after joining the Parkwood Methodist Church where she sang in the choir each Sunday, played the piano and organ, and participated in the special church holiday programs presented each year.
After all of her children were grown, Madie and Ray divorced in 1973. Four years later, Madie married Daniel Pollard, Jr. (Tom), and she returned to Alexandria, Louisiana, the area she still referred to as “home”. After Tom retired, the two traveled from one end of this beautiful country to another in their motor home. They were often accompanied by one or more of their grandchildren, who also enjoyed the opportunity to see other parts of the country.
In 2006, Madie and Tom moved to Lewisville, Texas, to live closer to family. After Tom passed away in 2009, Madie moved with her daughter, Pamela Busfield, to Austin, Texas, where she lived until her final days.
Madie is survived by her son, Ronald Weeks, Canyon Lake, Texas, and daughters Pamela Busfield, Austin, Texas, and Margaret Beasley, Timpson, Texas. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Connie Jeree Johnson, Jennifer Gale, Leanne Sutton, Bryan Beasley and Rachel Voumard and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and her youngest daughter, Janice Lee Weeks.
It was Madie’s long desire, upon the time of her death, to donate her body to research, which she has done, therefore, there will be no funeral service.
