Lynne and I met before she moved to Fountain Valley and we maintained our friendship over the years from a distance. There are so many memories, so many parties over the years, but a couple of things come to mind.
Every year Lynne had a 4th of July... moreLynne and I met before she moved to Fountain Valley and we maintained our friendship over the years from a distance. There are so many memories, so many parties over the years, but a couple of things come to mind.
Every year Lynne had a 4th of July party. In 1986 I was pregnant and my due date was on July 4th. I told Lynne I was not coming out because I didn't want to be away from home on my due date. Well, you know Lynne wasn't going to accept this excuse without an argument. I stuck to my guns and her response to me was "this child better be born today!" Isn't that such a Lynne statement!! I told my doctor this kid had to be born that day, which he was, just minutes before midnight. Thank goodness or I would never have heard the end of it.
Over the years Lynne and I would meet up to go shopping. Who best to shop at Nordstrom Rack with but Lynne. (I'll probably never be able to go to The Rack again without her). But one day we went to Nordstroms. Lynne bought a purse and that day they were giving a gift with purchase. So after Lynne paid for her purse, the salesgirl said to her we have a gift for you. Lynne took one look at the gift and without a breath and with a serious straight face, she said to the salesgirl WHY!! They were giving away these bags, looked like a bowling ball bag and it was the ugliest bag we had ever seen. No one would want one, but it was the way Lynne looked at it and said to her "Why." I'll never forget that look. The more we thought about that, the funnier it was. We laughed about it for years.
At the same time that Lynne was fighting Pancreatic Cancer my husband was very ill dealing with Multiple Myeloma. It was difficult for us to get together because of the distance and we were only able to see one another a handful of times. With all her tenacity, I honestly thought she would fight it and win. Lynne was a good friend. She was sincere and you knew if you needed anything, she would be there. I will miss you my friend and the good times we had. less

We are hoping that family and friends will post their touching and/or funny remembrances (and pictures/videos) of Lynne here online, most especially since we are unable to get together at this crazy... moreWelcome, everyone, to our memorial for Lynne Fiedler. We are hoping that family and friends will post their touching and/or funny remembrances (and pictures/videos) of Lynne here online, most especially since we are unable to get together at this crazy time when large and small groups of people are being discouraged from getting together.
I'll start and probably come back later to add more. (And add some pictures as well.)
Lynne was a force to be reckoned with. If you haven't read the Obituary written by her sister Susan, start there - she summed it up well -- most especially where she said that Lynne was famously known for never taking no as an answer! That woman could persist...! I thought of Lynne as a rather bossy big sister who was always telling me what to do and how to do it - and me ignoring her advice as much as I could :-) But she did get through to me, I did try some of her products, I did take some of her advice, and I came to realize that she actually had some pretty good advice a lot of the time!
Now I just have to tell you, if any of you didn't have the opportunity to drive with Lynne -- (either while she was driving or I was) -- well, you missed an experience. I'm just glad the people in the other cars didn't hear what she had to say! (Though they did hear her horn, as she used it often.) ((AND - if I was driving, she would reach over and honk my horn when she thought it was appropriate!!))
Lynne was a crazy cat lady, a great cook, a real dynamo -- at times challenging to deal with because of what uniquely made her Lynne -- and a huge heart; she was always telling me she wanted what was best for me and I believe that sentiment was true. She threw herself into her projects and the things she truly cared about. She also did pinch my husband's butt any time she got the chance ... that was all a part of Lynne being Lynne.
I got to spend some time with Lynne during her last few years. I got to meet some of her closest friends and family and some of her very caring doctors. It shocked me when she passed. She wasn't ready to go. I do think of her often. It's interesting to me that she left this world right before it really fell into disarray - but I imagine she's got some advice for what we need to do right now and in the future and she's screaming it at us from where she is. And honking the horn!!
I also imagine she is resting in God/Spirit's love and receiving all the Good. It will be very interesting when we meet up again :-) less
