I only spent six months at the same newspaper as Lonnie -- the Jackson Clarion-Ledger circa 1977 -- but we clicked immediately, despite the fact that I had a reputation as a bit of a wild man and Lonnie was as straight an arrow as there was. He was a uniquely good individual, one of those people who, w/o even meaning to, makes you want to be a better person. His was obviously a rich and productive life but, alas, too short.
