Chapter 1: A Time to Be Born… Leroy “Red” Britt Glenn was born on September 16, 1952 in Springfield, Florida, to the late Annie Mae Norwood-Glenn and Henry Britt. He was the second of eight children. He was raised in love by his beloved Grandparents, Willie and Janie Glenn.

Chapter 2: A Time to Grow… Growing up in the community of Bay Harbor, Red—as he was affectionately known by his friends and family—was surrounded by his uncles, brothers and sisters. Red fiercely loved and defended his family, and dedicated himself to any task set before. He was known for his athleticism, hard work, and advocacy for the ones he loved so dearly. After attending Tom P. Haney Technical school, Red joined Job Corp where he became a welder. As we know, his journey was just beginning…

Chapter 3: A Time to Love… Red was enveloped in love by children, family, friends and community members throughout Panama City and the surrounding communities. While progressing in his career, he began building a family of his own through his children—he fathered two loving daughters, Lysheenya and Micaella, and a supportive son, Micheal. Red’s children blessed him with wonderful grandchildren, all of whom loved him and gave him unspeakable joy.

Chapter 4: A Time to Labor… Red developed his diligent work ethic at a young age and employed it throughout his career as a chef, socialite and entrepreneur. Under the tutelage of his uncle George, Red first began barbequing as a hobby in George’s backyard for friends and family. In 1974, Red transformed this hobby into the legendary restaurant that we now know as “Glenn’s Bar-B-Que” with the help of his brother, Marvin “Moody” Glenn. “Glenn’s” was originally located at George’s house on Claire Avenue, but as Red grew the business, he relocated the restaurant to U.S. Hwy 98 in Bay Harbor. Known as the “The Pit” to friends and family, Glenn’s became one of the most popular BBQ eateries in the Panhandle, drawing renowned repeat patrons like FSU’s Bobby Bowden to savor the perfect rib sandwich smothered between two pieces of white bread. Red even franchised Glenn’s Bar-B-Que, opening locations in Port St. Joe and Tallahassee. Although grilling was Red’s specialty, “The Flavor is our Thing” became the business’ slogan because of Red’s signature BBQ sauce. Known to make anyone’s mouth water, the “Sauce” was famous from Germany to Jacksonville, and the recipe remains a secret to this day. Red and Moody also launched a second business called “Glenn’s Restaurant and Lounge”, which became an entertainment hub in Panama City and employed many people in the Bay Harbor community. Red dedicated himself to his craft and his community, and in return God prospered his hands.

Chapter 5: A Time to Rest… After Red’s health declined, God embraced Leroy “Red” Glenn in his everlasting arms on July 28, 2020. He is reunited in Heaven with his mothers, Janie Glenn and Annie Mae Norwood-Glenn, and his sister, Roxie Ann Norwood. While we may never understand God’s wisdom, we humbly submit ourselves to His divine order. Leroy is deeply loved and survived by his daughter, LySheenya Phillips, son, Michael Kyle (Rochelle), and youngest daughter, Micaella Carter (Lyndon); seven loving grandchildren; supportive and loving siblings, Lilly Jean Robinson (John), Alvin Glenn (Joyce), Cynthia Stanley (Tracey), Barbra Glenn, Eddie Clay Norwood (Inez), Lessie Clay Norwood; special brothers Joe Glenn, Marvin Glenn, and Jackie Glenn; dedicated cousin Robert Glenn; dedicated nephew Cory Glenn; and a host of loving aunts and uncles, caring nieces and nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends, including the staff of Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Panama City, FL, and Solaris Healthcare in Pensacola, FL.
