It creates space for people to reflect on Black history, civic engagement, and the importance of storytelling, dialogue, and public memory. Uncle Leni was deeply connected to this work and helped shape the spirit of the series, which continues in his honor.
The group/cast shared this tribute video with me, and I wanted to make sure others had an opportunity to experience a portion of the evening and the work they are continuing. less

This is such a beautiful gathering of my dear, dear friend, Leni’s, legacy. You are all so knowledgeable. I feel him in your midst. Much appreciation.

Leni wore many hats: dancer, choreographer, historian, arts and culture facilitator, and as he liked to self-describe, ‘catalytic agent.’
Born in 1948, Leni took ill suddenly and catastrophically over Christmas while visiting New York from his native Pennsylvania.”

Ten days before, on December 15, 2025, through an email, Brother Lenwood wrote, "Dr. Thames Taylor is a national force for truth" to describe me for the William Whipper Reading Circle. Every one needs a Lenwood in their life. He constantly sowed into my garden. When we talked, we looked into each other's eyes. We were deliberate and intentional with one another. His handsome face always, yes always, greeted me with a warm smile. His first words were "Good Sister." We met over 20 years ago when I first arrived to Pennsylvania from Mississippi when he was animating democracy, through the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, with his Live and Learn series. I was his scholar. He wrote a letter of recommendation for me. He even chose me as a keynote replacement for him for a diversity conference a few years back. I was so honored. This brother believed in me. His love lifted me. The photos below are from late April 2023. We were in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They are candid and they capture our relationship beautifully. He will be in my next life or iteration and we will love each other there too. less
