LC was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and good neighbor. He was known as “Butch” or “Deac” to his family and friends throughout his life. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of various churches in Mississippi and Chicago. He was deeply involved in many areas of church activities, which included serving as a deacon and as a member of a traveling male choir group. There was never a job too small at church that he would not do with joy. During his early life, the Gordon family moved from Mississippi to Alabama, and finally settled back in Mississippi. There, as a young man, LC Sr., spent some of his most enjoyable times working on various farms in the Mississippi Delta. In 1961, he met and married the love of his life, Mattie Mae Taylor, who had a young daughter, Joann. To that union, four children, LC Jr., Albert James, Stevie, and Erica were born. He enjoyed a lifelong, close relationship with all five of his children, whom he cared for deeply. LC Sr., was part of a close-knit farming family, from whom he learned many valuable trades. He honed these trades over the years to become an exceptional mechanic, carpenter, and machinist. He was known for his unbelievable hard work and dedication. After moving to Chicago, in the 1960’s, he worked for almost 20 years as a machinist for Allis-Chalmers. After Allis-Chalmers closed their doors, he worked for many more years and retired from Halo Lighting Company. During his time in Chicago, he was also a store owner, neighborhood mechanic, and general repairman. LC Sr., loved his immediate and extended family dearly. Family was very important to him, especially the nephews and nieces of his many brothers and sisters. LC was the most neighborly person you would ever meet. He never met a stranger because he treated everyone like a friend. He would tell fascinating and funny stories about growing up in the South. He will truly be missed by many. After 85 years of extraordinary living, on March 5, 2020, in Park Ridge, Illinois, he departed this earthly world to take his rightful place with angels in heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pinkie Gordon; wife, Mattie Mae Gordon; a son, Albert James Gordon; a grandson, Langston Christian Gordon; and his brothers and sisters. He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughters, Erica Gordon and Joann Stevens(Craig); his sons, LC Gordon, Jr., (Anita) and Stevie Gordon (Niambi); grandchildren, Tierra Gordon, Kalen Gordon, Darius Gordon, Levias Gordon, Stevonna Gordon, Craigton Stevens, Tiffany Stevens, Marton Gordon, Kia Gordon, and JeTaun Gordon; and many other nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors.
