This memorial page is a way for everyone who knew her to share their memories.
Her life has been a blessing to many people in her roles as a mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, high-school science teacher, mentor, Seventh-Day Adventist missionary, and cherished friend. Our family invites you to share your experiences in the 'Memories & Condolences' tab, as well as to share any words, photos, or videos you may have to help us remember and honor her.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, we kindly ask that you consider contributing to an annual scholarship fund which has been established in her name with the University of the Southern Caribbean (Formerly Caribbean Union College). We invite you to donate to the fund, which will benefit students who are interested in pursuing graduate careers in science and medicine. We thank you in advance for contributing to this cause, via the link below. Together, we will continue her legacy of Christian Service.

As a child you made me feel as though I was as important and special as any adult, a rare thing to find. I remember eating flying fish in Barbados and posing for pictures on the beach. I remember seeing snow for the first time in Florida.
Thank you for being there and blessing us for wedding. Mom and Dad were especially glad that you were there.
I love you so much.
Go with God my dear sweet aunt.

We send warm and heartfelt greetings from our family to yours. It is an honour to share with you on behalf of the So’Brien clan who came from Trinidad and Tobago, now scattered across the globe.
As I look through the many shared family photos and writings we are overwhelmed by the love and bond you have created. In particular, your letter and dedication to my mother Dorina, your “sister girl” meant the world to us and I was also touched when you asked for a copy of the life story of my father Christopher So’Brien, in his own words.
You are a pioneer and an ambassador who has broken through traditions of culture, country and belief. You help us to remember our origins, be present in the moment and look forward to a future where we do not need to always accept the world as it is.
I somehow feel obliged to mention your exceptional kids and grandkids - what a lovely blend of gene pools with such beauty, intelligence and empathy. Your legacy is safe in their hands.
We thank you, admire you and we love you.
Forever yours,
—Derrick and all the So’Briens less

Definitely, she was a schoolmate of my dad (Trotty) in the mid- to late-1940s at Caribbean Training College. Many years later, while president of the University of the Southern Caribbean Alumni Association in Washington DC , I had the pleasure of having Aunt Joyce brighten our annual weekend event. She sacrificially made the trip from Ohio to Maryland, offered photos from her personal collection for various projects, was a platform participant in our programs, and graced events wearing one of her spectacular hats! Over the years, Joyce So'Brien became a household name, for by her lovely smile, effusive personality, support of and genuine concern for Alma Mater, she endeared herself to the hearts of countless "CUCians"! We love you! Aunt Joyce, I love you! I am truly grateful for this opportunity to celebrate your life and your accomplishments; and to let you know for sure that I do! Princess 💜 less
