Johnny Dane Seagraves, 68, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on April 6th, 2021. He was born June 4th, 1952 in Portsmouth, Ohio to parents Herschel and Ruth Seagraves and was an only child. They moved to Columbus, Ohio when he was a teenager. He spent his younger years living life to the fullest, hustling games of pool or darts and racing Mopar cars with his friends Robert Allen and Paul Kirk. He met his wife Mary Bentz during this raucous time and they married in January of 1976. Once his kids were born and he had caused a sufficient amount of trouble out on the town, he transitioned to enjoying Nascar races on TV and playing cards and darts at home with his buddies while listening to loud, old country music and drinking beer on the weekends. Some of his other favorite pastimes included visiting with his family in Portsmouth, fishing, gambling, and "raising hell". John worked as a semi-truck driver. He and his wife Mary even drove together, cross-country for about 2 years in the beginning of their marriage, taking in the sights. In the latter half of his career, he started his own business, Seagraves Trucking, and worked local or short-distance jobs. He really enjoyed his job and he has been so many places that he could give you detailed directions to anywhere, including pitstops and gas stations, at the drop of a hat. Anyone who knew him well would tell you that he was the most stubborn, but well-meaning man you'd ever meet. He tried to do right by people and was always willing to help someone out. You always knew where you stood with him, and you'd better hope it was on his good side. He was a perpetual bad ass but had a soft spot for his wife, kids, and dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Ruth Seagraves many years ago and is surely overjoyed to be able to reconnect with them on the other side. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Mary (Bentz) Seagraves and his children Amanda and Justin Seagraves, all of Columbus, Ohio. In accordance with his final wishes, there will be a visitation and viewing on Wednesday, April 14th from 4-7PM at Newcomer Funeral Home in Grove City, after which he will be transported down through Portsmouth into Kentucky to his final resting place at Waring Cemetery in Garrison, Kentucky. A graveside service will be held at noon on Thursday, April 15th with Pastor Mark Butler presiding and is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Directions to Waring Cemetery from Columbus, OH: Approximately 2 hours. Take 23 South to Waverly. In Waverly, take 104 South. The road branches to the right at the auto parts store. 104 turns into 73 as you near Portsmouth. 73 branches into 852 and 73 as you near the river. Stay on 852 to take the bridge over the river. Once you cross over, you make a right onto Highway 8. After about 10 minutes, you will need to make another right onto Highway 8 to stay on the road. A few minutes after that, you will reach Garrison, and see the Collins Market on your left. About a block after you pass the market, you will pass Garrison Floral & Gifts, also on the left. After the floral shop, you will make a left onto Cemetery Rd. There is a small sign, and it looks like a driveway to someone's house, so it is easy to miss.
