Joe Wayne Hendrix, 76, of Chandler, Texas returned to his heavenly home on December 24, 2020 after a seven-year struggle with Lewy Body dementia and Parkinson’s Disease.

Joe was born in Dyess, Arkansas in May 1944 to Ben and Narvia Hendrix. He grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas, where he met his bride and wife of 55 years, Carolyn (Stone) Hendrix. Joe served in the Navy Reserves during the Vietnam War. He spent much of his career as a self-employed air conditioning repairman but had his greatest success in real estate, buying and selling houses and managing rental properties with Carolyn.

Joe had a great sense of humor and continued cracking jokes for as long as he could speak. He was kind-hearted and mild-mannered. He loved to play dominoes and usually won. He attended First Methodist Church in Chandler, and his last outing when he could still drive was going to play dominoes at the church.

Joe was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ben and Narvia Hendrix, and three of his siblings, Don, Vernon, and Velma Hendrix.

Joe is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hendrix; brothers, David and Gene (aka Brother Bill) Hendrix; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Tom Cherry; grandson, Joseph Cherry; and granddaughters, Carlin and Krista Cherry. Uncle Joe loved his 20 nieces and nephews, who grieve his loss as well.

The family is holding a virtual memorial service on Zoom in honor of Joe, details to follow. All are invited to participate.
