Special Event: "Vintage Fashion Show."
(March 9, 2011)
Joan hosted a very special "Vintage Fashion Show" with all of her mother's fancy old dresses. The clothing had been saved & stored for 80-90-100+ years. She recruited her friends & family to model each different dress - including all the accessories, jewelry, hats, purses, and details. Some of the items were 100+ years old. She planned the event as a walk-through fashion history. She narrated the fashion show including all the details & history about each of the vintage dresses.
Note: Following is an online photo album book that Cami created of that special day.
Interesting Note: "First Century Families."
(November 5, 2009)
"Attending the First Century Families 71st luncheon on Nov. 5 at the California Club are, from left, John van Barneveld of La Habra Heights, Edward P. Roski Jr., chairman of the USC Board of Trustees, and Joan Kaplanis of San Marino.
Roski spoke on “USC and L.A.: Past, Present and Future,” along with Shane McCoy, executive director of advancement for USC libraries.
First Century Families is a group of descendants of the pioneers who came to Southern California before or during the first hundred years after the founding of the city of Los Angeles on Sept. 4, 1781.
Van Barneveld and Kaplanis are descended from great aunt Emeline Childs, married to Ozro Childs, an original donor of land for the USC campus."
