Jim was born in Ringwood NJ to William Hand Irene( née Brown) on a horsepowered farm.He attended Allegheny College,Drew University and Union Theological Seminary. He was a Methodist minister for 25 years and later worked for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission and as a career counselor. Married for 56 years to Eleanor Crawford, they had four children, Alan, Brian, Irene Rhinesmith-Baker and Sharon Rhinesmith Moolten; five grandchildren: David, Jonathan and Benjamin Rhinesmith, Odette and Shira Moolten and three great-grandchildren.
