On August 22nd, 2020, James passed away at 56 years old after his long, courageous battle against colon cancer. He passed away in his own home, surrounded by his family and closest friends. He was a faithful servant to our Lord.
James is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; his children, Ryan and Christopher; his mother, Carol; and his four siblings, Maryann, Patty, Michael, and Tommy. He is predeceased by his father, Thomas Joyce.
James was born in Astoria, Queens to Thomas and Carol Joyce. He had four siblings: Maryann, Patty, Michael, and Tommy. James loved his family deeply, and he is reunited in heaven with his father. As the fourth child, he always acted as the peacemaker. He was the life of the party, always bringing joy to everyone he interacted with. James had a contagious laugh. He knew exactly what to say to touch the lives of all. He made everyone feel valued and loved. In his youth, James attended St. Pius X and Springfield Gardens High School. He graduated from Baruch College in 1987 with a Bachelor of Business Administration and Management. Upon graduation, James worked as a banker, ultimately climbing the ranks to become an Executive Director for JP Morgan Chase Bank. He was a devoted employee, working up until a week before his passing.
James was a cherished husband to his wife of 28 years, Eileen, and a proud father to his two sons, Ryan and Christopher. His first priority was always his family, and they share many treasured memories of quality time together. Furthermore, James’ fatherly presence touched the lives of his many nieces and nephews. He always possessed unconditional compassion and support for those in need. James had many long last friendships, including that of his best friend, Suzanne Queiroz, for more than 50 years. All of his friends and acquaintances will forever relish in the memories, laughter, and love he shared. He was a man of great faith and was an active parishioner at his church. In his free time, James loved going to the beach. He took great delight in swimming in the waves of the ocean. You could often find James at the pool with his sons, or relaxing on a beach chair in the sand. James loved the beauty of nature. He would spend most of his evenings relaxing on his lanai with his family, taking in the views with blissful content.
