Gustavo E. Diaz, born in Bogotá, Colombia on September 13, 1952, passed away in Esslingen, Germany, on August 9th 2022. He was the longtime loving husband to Ligia (Lee), his wife of 41 years, the beloved father of Gus Jr., Catherine & son-in-law Kenneth Marquez, cherished son of the late Gustavo & Lola Diaz, fond son-in-law to Ignacio & Clara Lopez, caring brother to his late twin sister Connie Diaz, and very proud and adoring grandfather to Camila and Adrian Marquez. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Daniel & Norma Lopez, along with many other loving family members.

Flaco, as he was known among his close friends and family, attended Liceo de Cervantes in his hometown and then got his degree in Economics from Tadeo Lozano University also in Bogota.  In 1981, he and Lee got married and moved first to Chicago and then to Tampa before settling in Weston, where they raised their two children. During this time, Gustavo worked at the Queen’s Flowers Corp. in Miami for 33 years where he was a very accomplished professional and which became like a second family to him.

He had retired two years ago to enjoy real country living at his farm, El Aguacatal, in Redland, Florida. Having moved there 7 years ago, he loved taking care of his “Animal Kingdom,” as he called it — his beloved dogs Angel, Yogi, and Shadow, his crazy cat Lola plus all the wild peacocks, birds, and other beautiful creatures that daily visit the farm. He felt on top of the world being a grandfather and a “farmer” and dreamed of soon having his grandchildren on his tractor with him, helping him do the lawn and caring for his avocados and pets.

Gustavo’s unexpected departure has left a profound void in our hearts, but he will forever be remembered for his infinite love of family, his tireless energy, his quick wit, his great sense of humor, and his generosity.

Fue el esposo amoroso de Ligia (Lee), su esposa durante 41 años, el amado padre de su hijo Gus Jr., su hija Catherine y su yerno Kenneth Márquez, amado hijo de Gustavo y Lola Díaz, querido yerno de Ignacio y Clara López, hermano cariñoso de su difunta hermana gemela Connie Díaz, y muy orgulloso y consentidor abuelo de Camila y Adrián Márquez. También le sobreviven su hermano y cuñada Daniel y Norma López, junto con muchos otros primos y allegados familiares.

Flaco, como era conocido entre sus familiares y amigos, asistió al Liceo de Cervantes en su ciudad natal y luego obtuvo su título en Economía en la Universidad Tadeo Lozano también en Bogotá. En 1981, él y Lee se casaron y se mudaron primero a Chicago y luego a Tampa antes de establecerse en Weston, donde criaron a sus dos hijos. Durante este tiempo, Gustavo trabajó en Queen's Flowers Corp. en Miami donde permaneció 33 años. Allí fue un profesional muy destacado y la compañía se convirtió en una segunda familia para él.

Se había jubilado hacía dos años para disfrutar de la verdadera vida en el campo en su finca, El Aguacatal, en Redland, Florida. Habiéndose mudado allí hace 7 años, le encantaba cuidar de su “Animal Kingdom”, como él la llamaba: sus queridos perros Angel, Yogi y Shadow, su loca gata Lola, además de todos los pavos reales salvajes, pájaros y otras hermosas criaturas que visitan diariamente la granja. Se sentía en la cima del mundo siendo abuelo y “agricultor” y soñaba con tener pronto a sus nietos en su tractor con él, ayudándolo a limpiar el césped y cuidando sus aguacates y mascotas.

La inesperada partida de Gustavo ha dejado un profundo vacío en nuestros corazones, pero siempre será recordado por su infinito amor a la familia, su incansable energía, su ingenio, su gran sentido del humor y su generosidad.
