GAIL MARIE WEBB ETIENNE
AUGUST 26, 1950 – JULY 28, 2021
Gail Marie Webb Etienne was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She departed this world on July 28, 2021 at the age of 70.
She was born to Robert Sr. and Doris Mae Webb on August 26, 1950. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in New Orleans in 1968. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in 1993.
Gail was a dedicated employee of AT&T Communications for over 36 years, holding a myriad of positions in New Orleans, Louisiana, Birmingham, Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia. She excelled in her work as evidenced through her progression and by those she impacted during her career. After her retirement in 2006, she used the same tenacity and dedication to continue her Mary Kay business. She believed in opportunity and helped anyone who wanted to pursue that option as a consultant under her wing.
Beyond all things, Gail was the backbone and strength for her two sons. She knew the impact the world could have on young black men and remained dedicated and resilient to ensure they had every opportunity to be successful. She called her boys ‘her two eyes’ and sacrificed to make sure they could reach their goals and dreams. She taught them how to move through life, instilled strength and gave them soft and tough love when needed. Even after they were grown, she would offer a few words of wisdom while allowing them to navigate with the tools she knew they possessed. The relationship between mother and sons was undeniably special and she was so proud of them and what they would accomplished.
Gail was a caregiver and a realist, combining life’s challenges with her need to help, fix, and make better with clear and concise purpose. She left an impression on anyone who knew her, whether over months or years, personally or professionally, her impact was palpable.
During her final days a lot of family, friends and coworkers reached out and left text messages and voicemails. She heard them all. Because of her optimism for recovery, she would not allow any visitors because she did not want to catch “The COVID” and risk not getting over that hurdle. Until the end, as with everything she did in life, she battled to show her strength.
Gail will be greatly missed by her sons James Etienne, III (Renée) and Delrick Etienne (Melinda), grandchildren (Jasmine Etienne and Donovan Etienne), brothers Robert Webb, Jr. (Antoinette) and Ronald Webb (Brenda) and sisters Eudell Vine (Claude), Catherine Webb, Jeanetta Peters (Warren), Roberta Helmstetter, Doris Ann Moore (Ivory, Sr.), Charlene Johnson & Denise Webb and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews & many longtime friends.
In celebration of her life and final wish, the family will come together for a memorial service on Saturday, August 28, 2021, 12:00 – 3:00 p.m., at Springhill Suites Vue Rooftop, 1600 Canal Street, New Orleans, Louisiana.
