Elgin E. Smith was born in Dallas, Texas on February 13, 1938; to Boyd Smith and Jessie

Helen Smith. His siblings were Lillian A. Simon, Boyd Smith and One Sybil Walker. Elgin was the

Baby brother spoiled and loved. He was raised by women, his mom was a single Mother.

   Elgin served in the USAF and after a few years he was honorably discharged. He later was a Merchant Mariner and had traveled the world. Elgin was adventurous and loved to travel. He was in France while serving in the Air Force. He traveled to Kuwait, Cambodia, Thailand, Venezuela, Diego Garcia- British Indian Oceans, Mexico and Hawaii. 

     Other jobs earlier in his life he was an amazing Ambulance Driver and later was a security Guard for La Puente’ Mall in Southern California. He also fumigated for a Pest Control Company serving Beverly Hills and Hollywood and Los Angeles, California.

       He married Joanna C Smith in the 1950’s and had two daughters, Joanne C Smith of St. Mary’s, Ga and Eugenia A.Smith of Newport News, Va.  Elgin was a wonderful Father, very supportive, loving and fun.

       Elgin’s Grandchildren:  Jonny E. Rodgers and Gail A Rodgers Mahaney, Jeremiah F. Egan, Loretta J. Egan and Rachel N. Smith.

        Elgin’s Great Grandchildren: Ethan Rodgers, Eve Rodgers and Eli Mahaney. Elgin loved his Grandbabies and great grandbabies!

Elgin’s other family members are as:  Nieces, Loretta A. Stapp and husband Pete, Sue Walker- Maccherella and husband Dan, Grandniece, Amanda Maccherella- Cramer and husband Brett.

Nephews: Elmer Moore, Bain Smith, Jim Smith, Eschol Walker and Joseph Stapp and wife Mary.

Elgin left behind his Fiancé” and love of his life, Henrietta who he adored and he laughed and said he never dreamed he would fall for a 80 year old woman but she was the high light of his week. His whole world stopped when Henrietta came over. They were very much in love and everyone in town talked about them. When they saw Elgin they saw Henrietta.  Elgin lived at Paula Maria Complex in Hampton, Virginia and all his neighbors loved him so much and many were broken up at his passing. He always helped  his neighbors and loved them. He will be greatly missed. They loved him as well.

    Elgin was not a rich man, but he lived like one, he always helped family, friends and neighbors, very loyal and kind natured.  Elgin had lots of stories to tell and he was a joker, he loved to get people laughing with him. He loved playing the lottery with the hopes of winning one day. He never gave up and was a fighter. His favorite quote was winners never quit and quitters never win. Elgin is a winner, he’s walking on streets of Gold. He professed Jesus as his Lord and Savior and was water baptized. He loved God, Gods people and life. He battled lung cancer and copd. This is not the end of Elgin but the next chapter of his life, if you know Jesus as your savior and king you will see my Dad again.  He  loved you all, be at peace- no more chemo no more radiation, no more Doctors, Dad graduated he was promoted and he’s watching over us from above and will always be with us in spirit. Thank you for being so good to my Father and for all your love and support for my family. It was a great loss for us, but God will help us pass thru this with the hope of seeing him again. I just wanted to honor my Father and ease your grief, he’s in a better place and he’s happy. Rejoice and God bless you all.
