My Uncle Eldon was one of the men I respected most in this world. He labored as a missionary to Africa for more than 30 years. He was one of the kindest, meekest men I have ever met, and he was an encouragement to all who knew him.

He was a model of hard work and faithfulness to the ministry God gave him. Despite the many challenges he faced in Botswana, South Africa, Malawi, and Tanzania, he persevered and pointed countless people to Jesus and a deeper knowledge of the Savior.

He chose to do what many other men would not choose to do. He was willing to risk and sacrifice whatever was necessary for the sake of the call of God, and the furtherance of the Gospel.

Along with his wife, my Aunt Lois, he led a family of five children to Africa, and raised all of the children there. As his children grew and began getting married and having their own families, as they themselves moved from country to country to follow God’s call, he and my aunt remained in their call. And even as Covid-19 began spreading around the world, he chose to remain at his station in Tanzania, rather than running towards the seeming security and better medical care that would have been potentially offered in the United States.

I was speaking to his oldest son, my cousin, this week, and he told me, “I never could imagine Dad retiring.” Even as he was getting older and slowing down physically (although he never slowed down that much!), it was impossible to imagine him settling into a life of retirement. One of the very last things he did before becoming ill was complete a recorded teaching on “The Journey of Israel” at a local radio station.

Although we grieve immensely at his passing – it seems much too soon – we rejoice that he completed his life as he had always lived it – serving God with all of his strength and remaining faithful to His call. His whole life was one of sacrifice and obedience, and he never ceased following this call.

I’m certain that He heard the Lord say those words we should all long to hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” less

How do you measure a life? Is it in wealth, accomplishments, status, achievements, popularity, longevity, ease, comfort? I am without question often misled in seeing all those things when I first look at a person's life. But then I remind myself that if this is the measure of a man's life, it is empty. All these measuring rods can be misleading. For the true value of a man in not in what acclaim he has received, but in what he deserves to receive. We often do not see the gain of the righteous in dollars or in popularity. But a truly honorable man is honored by heaven itself, and his wealth is measured in his spiritual legacy, his children, his good works, his seed and in what he is yet to gain for all eternity, his eternal reward. I have seen the wealth of the righteous in the Kropf family, and in the life of Pastor Eldon and Lois Kropf and I recognize that there is a price to be paid to become truly wealthy. For we gain according to our giving. And we reap according to our sowing. Eldon gave his life day after day, month after month and year after year. He never stopped. I never heard him think about himself, but about his children, about tender believers and about the fields of the Lord. He was God's friend. He was sensitive to the things that were near to God's heart. He loved to sing. Even if he wasn't a musician, he was a true worshipper. Some have commented and I concurre - his anointing increased in his latter years.

We were so blessed to have been with them in December 2020. We had no idea why we felt such an urgency to be with them (aside from the fact that it had been over 3 years since we had been with them), we knew it was a God appointed time. We helped Ben arrange the office studio in their home where Dad was wanting to record more sessions for the Radio Stations. If anyone knew Bro Eldon, you knew he was a quiet man. However, once the door was closed and the recording had started, the anointing came over him and his voice was so strong, so powerful and the message was like sitting under a waterfall. I had intended to brush my teeth in the room just next to the office/studio. I think I brushed them for over 7 minutes that day because I was soaking up the sound of the anointing.

He took great interests in the things that were important to God, and he sowed in those places where God was working. He gave his love, he gave his counsel, he gave his prayers, he gave financially, he gave his time, he gave his life.

We feel so blessed to have had a father in Eldon. We honor him as a righteous man. We honor him as a man sent by God. As a father, and as a friend of God. Although he dwelled in simple places, and braved a life of service in poverty stricken nations. He was a wealthy man and will continue to inherit his eternal reward in the lives of so many of us (His children and those who have been impacted by him) as we press on to know God and follow his Godly example. He was a good tree, and has born much much fruit. The seeds are in the fruit, and as we are planted and grow and bear our own fruit, we will honor him.

When I would visit, he would make me coffee-then he discovered I like it strong :) So he would make mine first, then add water to his. He gave, and gave and always put others first. When our hearts were breaking, he gave us his ears. When we were at our wits end, he gave us his counsel. When we were in need of direction, he gave us his prayers. And always without knowing it, he gave us his example.

I pray his life would not only impress me but that I would learn from him how to be God's friend and how to leave a legacy of righteousness. After all, this was his greatest measure of wealth. - Sarah (daughter-in-law)

Eldon and Lois always greeted me with a warm handshake, huge smile (Lois did the most smiling) and some form of encouragement or blessing. When I learned they were moving to Tanzania 🇹🇿 part of my heart dropped a little because I knew I was going to miss seeing them at church ever Sunday. It was a blessing to see them just before they moved and away. I remember thinking, “ I want to be like Eldon” because I never heard any unkind word from him. He never raised his voice (which anyone who knows me, know this is a big weakness I have). Eldon devoted his life life to serving in Africa and I always have prayed that I will have that honor. Eldon lived a and gave his all for the African people and I know that he will never be forgotten here. He lived a life of kindness, mercy, humility and dedicated everything he had to serving those around him. It will be a joy to be reunited with him on the other side of eternity. I know how faith is now his sight and he is rejoicing with all the angels. Well done, thou good and faithful servant, Eldon. I will miss your encouragement and love. Until we meet again, my friend, and we can rejoice together.

I pray, Lois, that the Holy Spirit would be so close as the promised Comforter while you and your family mourn. But I also pray, Lois, that even now, you would feel the COVID-19 being defeated in your body and will find a complete recovery.
