Dr. Dickerson was my lead professor when I completed the Master's degree in the teaching of reading at Howard University 1987 - 1988. As an international student the American education system was new to me, but she took me under her wing and nurtured me. I lived in Silver Spring and she would drop me off at night after class. She taught me football and I became as rabied a fan of the Washington team as she was. Experiencing Doug Williams Super Bowl win in 1988 with her is a memory I will carry with me forever.
On returning home to Barbados after graduation, I moved up in the education system, eventually reaching the number two spot in the leadership of the system. All of my success I credited to Dr. D. I was in Washington two years ago and tried reaching her, but could not make telephone contact.
Michael, you were the apple of her eye. So too was Loli. Accept my sincerest condolences. I loved Dr. D. And will always carry her memory in my heart. Dr. Idamay Denny Howard University School of Education Graduate, December 1988.
