Douglas Robert Bernd, 70, of Louisville passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021 of a heart attack. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Paula (Smith) Bernd; his step children Timothy John Fitch (Shauntel) of Flagstaff, AZ, Julie Patrice Wadsworth (Matt) of Winter Park, FL; grandchildren Nathan and Ashley Wadsworth and Aviel Fitch; his sisters, Alison Randall, of Lansdale, PA, Kimberly Parkins (Robert) of Harleysville, PA; nieces, Amy Good (Bruce), Elizabeth Parkins, Emily Parkins, Megan Johnson (Nick) and Tara Bauscher (Robert) and a nephew Bradley Randall.
Doug had a highly regarded 40 plus year career in the steel industry, which began in 1974 having been accepted to the prestigious Bethlehem Steel Loop Sales training program. After leaving Bethlehem, he worked for companies such such Pacesetter Steel and Gallatin Steel, before landing at Louisville-based Steel Technologies, where he retired after a successful tenor as Senor Vice President of Purchasing in 2018.
Doug, an avid golfer, was a golf member and on the advisory board of the Cardinal Club. He enjoyed weekly golf with some of his best friends, the "Tour Group," at the Cardinal Club and "The Loopers" at the Polo Fields Country Club.
