Doris Ann (MacMillan) French

(August 30, 1937 – December 28, 2021)

Doris French, 84, of Lindenhurst, died Tuesday, December 28.

She was born August 30, 1937, in Lake Forest, IL to the late Tom and Mary MacMillan.

Doris was a long-time member of LeClaire Christian Church in Edwardsville, IL, faithfully serving her Lord as a teacher, mentor, youth leader, and friend to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Elliott French, and her younger brother, Charles MacMillan. 

She is survived by her older brother Bill MacMillan, 89, of Lake Forest, IL. Her surviving children include Scott William French and wife LouWanna of Frederick, MD and Bruce Elliott French and wife Maria of Round Lake, IL; grandchildren, Cole, Lyla, Mary, Marina, and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Preston, and Kinslee.

Doris was a kind, funny, steadfast, and energetic servant of God who loved her family, her community, and God’s church. God blessed her with a lengthy career as an elementary school teacher beginning in  Robinson, IL after graduating from Illinois State University with a degree in Physical Education.  Most of her teaching years were spent at LeClaire and Columbus schools in Edwardsville. Teaching brought her great joy and purpose. She also loved to travel and both watch and play sports. Her love of chocolate shakes from Dairy Queen, Steak 'n Shake, and Culver's remains the stuff of legend for her friends and family. Most of all, she never failed to see goodness in others and celebrate their success.

Though frugal, Doris and Elliott were generous with their giving, asking little in return. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to one or more of the following:
