Donald Joseph Messer, better known as "Donny," grew up in Ocean Township, New Jersey and had three brothers (Joseph, Jeffrey & Richard) and four sisters (Marybeth, Joanne, Sharon & Beverley). He was drafted into Vietnam where he was honorably discharged due to his decorated service in the special forces of the Army during the war and was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart.
Donny married, Louise Debra Canneto and had two sons, Donald John Messer (D.J.) and Christopher Vaughn Messer; and three grandchildren, Christian Vaughn, Jayden Marc and Zane Michael.
He spent much of his retired life in Florida with his family, later joining some of his siblings in Kentucky.
Donny is best remembered for his friendly personality, warm spirit and talented carpentry. He will be forever in our memories and hearts until we see him again in heaven, so help us God.
