Diane Stephanie Hardwick passed away on July 22, 2021 at the age of 79.
Diane was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Alice Dumbrille; brother, James Dumbrille; and sisters, Beth Wos and Cindy Feese.
She leaves behind her husband, Terry Hardwick; sons, Jim, Tom and Kevin Vockel; stepdaughter, Cindy Pierce; brother, Richard Dumbrille; and grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, Parker, Alice and Helen Vockel, Joshua Bailey and Conner Pierce.
She was born, Diane Stephanie Dumbrille, on Sept. 16, 1941. She grew up in Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City High School. She was an excellent student and went on to study English first at Northwestern Michigan College, then at the University of Michigan.
Diane spent time living across the United States before returning home to Traverse City in 1983.
She worked in real estate and real estate marketing, before joining her husband Terry in support of their own construction company.
Diane was known for her intellect, quick wit and irreverent sense of humor. She had a way with words, and could always be counted on for a smart response that would have the room in stitches. She loved to read and to make things. She was seldom seen without a book, crochet hook and ball of yarn nearby.
Diane was completely devoted and supportive to those that she loved. She spent countless hours with her husband Terry on their sailboat, on trips to California and on working to build a business together. She always had thoughtful praise and advice for her children, cared for her parents in their times of need and made those around her feel special, supported and loved. She was truly a gift to this world and she will be sorely missed.
Funeral services for Diane will be held at Christ The King Church in Acme on August 20. Visitation will be at 11 a.m., followed by rosary at 11:45 a.m. and Mass at 12:15 p.m. Lunch will be served after the Mass in the lower level.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grand Traverse Area Right to Life or Hospice of Michigan.
