He and Bob flew to the big airshow in Oshkosh many years ago and stopped to see Bob's family in Vail, Iowa. When David met Bob's 5 foot tall sister, Teri, he said "You must be Bob's little toy sister." David put her shoes inside his shoes to "see if they fit" - and she looked all over the house for them before she discovered her shoes in their "nest." David was a wonderful, caring, intelligent person and he'll be greatly missed. He was a good friend and a good man.

I enjoyed listening to his stories about Denver and he was one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve known. We shared stories of Denver street names and house styles/types during our lunch hour walks in the old south Denver neighborhoods. He was a great historian of railroads and military and of course Gates history. He will be missed. Prayers to his family. less
