Darrick Robert West was born on December 21, 1966 to Patricia Anderson and Robert West. He fell asleep in death on March 9, 2021. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and graduated from Mergenthaler High School (Mervo) in 1984. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on June 30, 1990 and remained a loyal servant of Jehovah until his death. He married in 1998 and from that union produced his greatest pride and joy—Ryan Dietrich and Ian Alexander.
Darrick always had a fascination with electronics. As a child, nothing with a battery or cord was safe around Darrick. Everyone in the family knew to hide your electronics because he could take it apart, but hadn’t yet got the knack of putting it back together. He eventually figured it out because he built his own computers for years. He had an aptitude for computers and a thirst for knowledge that never stopped and culminated in him obtaining his dream job with Microsoft as a Senior Systems Engineer.
Darrick could also be a bit of an oddball for example preferring Coke over Pepsi and his ardent and relentless defense of Microsoft Windows over Apple.
Darrick loved trying different restaurants and could always recommend a good place for whatever you were interested in eating. He also enjoyed cooking and baking and was actually pretty good at both.
Anyone who spent time with Darrick always commented on how intelligent he was. He was a good, loyal and dependable friend and servant of Jehovah, and the most caring and loving father and generous son and brother. He enjoyed spending time with his children and was always concerned for their future. Before he passed he was helping his youngest son, Ian, with the purchase of his first car.
His mother Patricia will miss their long phone conversations
His son Ryan will miss
His son Ian will miss
His sister Darlene will miss their epic fights and waking up to text messages he would send at 5:13 in the morning
His brother-in-law Darnell will miss
And friends and family will miss uttering “man I tell you, that Darrick....
Darrick is survived by his two beloved sons Ryan and Ian West, his mother Patricia Anderson, his sister Darlene Singleton, brother-in-law Darnell Singleton, three aunts—Mary Abrams (Uncle Sonny) Lucille Carter and Helen West Smith, and his uncle Theodore Anderson Jr. (Linda), his first, second, third and fourth cousins and friends who loved and will miss him dearly.
Darrick’s trust in Jehovah was strong and sure. He looked forward to life in a paradise earth free of sickness, pain, sorrow and death, and we look forward to welcoming him back and seeing him in perfect health and happiness.
