Charlotte was the beloved matriarch of our family, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was proud of our family members' accomplishments, but was most proud that we upheld the values she passed to us: acts of love, love of family, lifelong learning, and tikkun olam (repairing the world).
She generously gave of herself as the Executive Director of the Syracuse Chapter of the American Diabetes Association, tutored international students in English, sat on the board of the Syracuse University Byrd Library, and served on the Advisory Committee for the Institute for the Family at URMC. She was awarded the 1979 Woman of the Year in Health in Onondaga County.
Her wisdom, warmth, and loving nature was without equal and appreciated by all who knew her, throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Institute for the Family-Dr. Susan Horwitz Community Scholarship Fund.

My beloved Grandmother, Tina Charlotte Hillsberg...
and as my "Grandma Lucy" ~ I love you dearly, always.
My Grandmother possessed a unique super-power to connect with people on such a visceral level that she made you truly feel that you were the most important person in the entire universe at that very moment in time and beyond. A rare, treasured gift often times accompanied by her magical smile, her precious laugh, even an endearing touch while she took hold of your hand and gently closed her eyes to share her soul with you.
The birds and trees outside the kitchen window are singing your praises, Grandma...
Elegant, Graceful, Dignified & Proud.
Loving, Caring, Kind & Compassionate.
The roses and irises in the garden are cherishing the sunlight of your optimism, Grandma...
Empathetic, Sensitive, Mindful & Wise.
Spiritual, Grounded, Radiant & Naturally Beautiful.
My Grandmother lived her life to its absolute fullest, never taking a single day for granted. Never taking for granted her innate ability to "listen" intently to you, even as her hearing waned over time.
As only my Grandma could deliver, I received an unexpected yet timely letter when faced with life's many uncertainties and challenges. In her majestic penmanship she wrote:
"Jeffrey dear,
I hope the future is more promising and I wish you everything you wish for yourself.
Always,
Love,
Grandma"
I want to take this special moment to share the same for all of you as well, as my Grandmother would want to you wish you everything you wish for yourself, with her love always.
