Buvana Ramaswamy passed away on January 16, 2022 after a months-long battle with cancer, in the comfort of family.
She was born to Padmanaban and Lakshmi Ramaswamy on March 6, 1967, in India, and moved with her parents and her younger sister Brinda to the United States in 1973. After graduating from high school she attended Wellesley College, earning degrees in mathematics and French literature, and did graduate work at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Arizona. She met her husband James “Bob” Sullivan one magical summer in Bar Harbor, Maine, and was a proud and devoted mother to two daughters: Maya and Tara.
In her work life, Buvana was a professional geologist working on environmental science and water resources. She was driven by projects whose solutions had great social impact and that challenged her technically, working around the country and the world. She was widely known as thoughtful, caring, and expert in her work.
Buvana was a sparkling woman, happiest when in the company of family and friends. Due to current COVID concerns, a gathering in remembrance of her life will be held later this year, please check here for those details when they become available.
