Brian Greenfield, 63, died at his home in Great Barrington on March 28, surrounded by family and close friends. A private memorial will be held on June 11.
Brian leaves behind his mother, Beverly Greenfield; his sisters, Lisa Avildsen and Susan Pupo; his son, Tyler Greenfield; and his daughter, Kelsey Greenfield. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Christopher Avildsen and Anthony Pupo; their children, Isabel Avildsen and Zachary Pupo; and his stepmother, Ingrid Greenfield.
Born in New York City, Brian spent several teenage years in Woodstock, Vermont, where he is remembered by a classmate as an avid reader who played hoops with friends, cursed a blue streak, wrote beautiful letters, and loved the New York Yankees and the Grateful Dead.
After graduating from Syracuse University, Brian returned to New York City and went into real estate finance. He raised his children in Manhattan and Westfield, New Jersey, and he loved spending time with them at the Jersey Shore, on diving vacations, at the family homestead in Canaan, New York, and in New Orleans and Colorado after they left home. They were the light of his life.
In 2013 he moved to Great Barrington, where his love of the outdoors drew him to area hiking trails, as well as Benedict Pond and Stockbridge Bowl for swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking.
Donations can be made in his name to the Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area (housatonicheritage.org).
