Bobby Ray Horne of Spartanburg, SC passed away at the age of 57 on December 7, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Tammy Helms Horne; children Sonja, Jamie, and Jonathan; grandchildren Hailey, Abigail, Lauren and Ozzlynn; sisters Nancy and Betty and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Sonja Horne and his siblings Libby and Tommy.
Affectionately known as Ray, his family and friends will carry on many memories of his personality, traditions, skills and talent.
He was born on March 24, 1963 in Shelby, NC. His siblings fondly remember their time spent growing up on a dairy farm in Shelby. They will always cherish the memories they made traveling to Chimney Rock, NC together - a tradition he carried on with his wife and children.
As he grew to an adult and raised a family with Tammy he was known for his quick wit that always brought a smile and his hard working character to provide for his family. He was a skilled auto mechanic and often used this skill to help family and friends in need. He was employed by Arrow Automotive and later Ken’s Lumber Yard where he was proud to obtain his CDL and drive a truck.
He had many interests and hobbies that brought joy to his life. He loved to go fishing with his cousins and friends, watch NASCAR (being the world’s biggest Dale Earnhardt fan), enjoyed cooking the best homemade sloppy joe’s ever for his family and was happy to continue watching cartoons his entire adult life - which he said was for his son and grandchildren, but everyone knew it was really for him.
His favorite time of the year was Christmastime. Every year he would gather his wife and children in the car and would drive them around to see Christmas lights - a tradition his daughters still carry on today.
He will be loved and missed deeply by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
