Betty Eloise Westgate Furbay went home to be with the Lord on March 26, 2020, at the age of 95. She passed away peacefully at her home in Quinlan, Texas.
She was born on September 7, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, to Fredrick and Muriel Westgate, and was married to Albert L. Furbay on August 5, 1950.
Betty graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois in 1949. She was "room mother" for both of her daughters during most of their grade school years. She retired from Jack Van Impe Ministries after working for this ministry for many years. Before moving to her daughter's home in Texas, Betty was an active member of Woodside Bible Church in Troy, Michigan, where she served as a deaconess and enjoyed working in the library.
She is survived by her daughters Kathy Furbay and Tess (Dan) McKinley; grandchildren Christen (Kelly) Monse, Melissa (Joshua) Robison, Brian (Michelle) Gallagher, Lily (Bryan) Pentlan, and Matthew Gallagher; great-grandchildren Ashlee Hairell, Dade and Ethan Robison, Braeden and Quinnley Gallagher; five nieces, one nephew and their families.
Betty was preceded in death by her two brothers Fredrick John "Jack" and James Stewart "Stew" Westgate.
A private burial, attended by family and close friends, was held at Hart Cemetery in Cash, Texas on April 2, 2020. The graveside service was officiated by Ruling Elder Tracy Brown of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville, Texas, and by The Reverend Jon Marq Toombs of Rockwall Presbyterian Church in Rockwall, Texas.
Betty's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation for all the support and comfort offered by our dear friends and family, and also to the staff at Vitas Hospice in Greenville, Texas, for the tender, loving care they provided. Thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers.
