Elizabeth Wright passed away in San Diego, California on February 9, 2022 after a courageous two-month battle with cancer. Her strong beliefs and love of family and friends inspired her actions throughout her life and to the end.
Beth was born Elizabeth Anne Martin on October 11, 1951 in Boston, Massachusetts. Beth graduated from New Trier East High School in Winnetka, Illinois in 1969. She attended Wellesley College and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She then attended the Newton Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing where she received her diploma in Nursing. For the next forty years, Beth dedicated herself to the nursing profession as a staff nurse, charge nurse, critical care and intensive care nurse and Emergency Room nurse. Beth served as a US Army Reserve nurse beginning in 1983, and received the Army Commendation Medal in 1986. She was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1992. She served as Hospital Director of Nursing at Vencor Hospital in San Leandro, California from 1996 to 1999. Beth was certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) since 1978 and a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) since 1992.
Beth married Thomas Saint in 1974; their two children Sean Thomas Saint and Meaghan Tara Saint live in California.
Beth married Donald “Bob” Wright in 1990. They moved to Whidbey Island, Washington, and built a home together where they lived for twenty years, working, gardening, and raising chickens. On Beth’s last day of work at Whidbey General Hospital, she wore her Newton Wellesley Nurse’s cap and white dress one final time. In 2018, Beth and Bob sold the house and everything in it and moved to a condo on the beach in Mazatlan, Mexico, where they began to enjoy a retirement of leisure, RV travel, and cruising.
Beth leaves behind many dear friends from her high school and college days, with whom she remained close for her entire life. She also leaves so many coworkers who remember her as an inspiring mentor and beloved friend. Her yoga practice was an important part of her life for ten years and she cherished her teachers and fellow practitioners.
She played classical music on her mother’s Steinway for years and continued playing on her electronic piano in Mexico.
She had the tiniest waist, the brightest smile, the thickest hair, and the strongest headstand.
Beth is survived by her husband Bob, her son Sean and his wife Kathy, her daughter Meaghan and her husband Rann, and her step-daughter Jenny and her husband Brett, her sister Lynne and her husband George, her brother Bill and his wife Sue, and her brother Peter. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
