OBITUARY
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. The daughter of Maximino de Jesus and Andrea Delgado, was born in Guayama, Puerto Rico on April 2nd. 1941. Bessie passed away quietly on Christmas night 2021. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Luis Antonio Mateo, daughters Arlene Fuentes, Elaine Mateo, and Mary Ann Broussard, nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who love and miss her dearly.
I will never forget when Wela told me she didn’t want people being sad after her passing. She wants everyone to rejoice and celebrate her return to our Father in heaven.

Even though those were her wishes, we will feel sad from time to time, and smile and laugh at other times as we replay our memories of her in our minds.
No matter the emotion we feel at the moment, the important thing is that she is remembered and never forgotten. She lives on in each of us and literally lives on in heaven.
I’m not sure what our tradition will be, but I do know that I always remember her when watching the Jungle Book and Coco, so we will probably watch those and share our fondest memories of her out loud.
